"Mom?" Jon asked hesitantly, walking back into the kitchen. Or is it Dad now? he thought, with a cringe.
The man turned and looked at Jon with frightened eyes. "Jon, what happened to me. I'm ... I'm ... I'm a man!"
Jon suddenly realized what must have happened. He said the wish loud enough to allow his mother to hear it. So now, per the rules of the stone, her memories remained intact. But everyone except for Jon and his male mother would think that it was normal that Jon's mother was a man. But how would that work? What about his real dad? He wasn't home yet. He always worked late. Were his parents gay? Did the stone make his dad female? Or was his father no longer part of his family? Jon wasn't sure.
"Mom, stay calm," Jon said. Suddenly, to his surprise, his mother stopped panicking. She just stood there and didn't say anything. And when she did say something, she said it calmly.
"So what exactly happened to me?" she asked.
Jon thought back to his wish and realized that it had done more that just turn his mom into a man. He wished that "that man" (his mother) would do what he said. And now, it seemed, his mom would do anything he told her.
Testing this out further, Jon said "Mom, I want you to ..."
