The doorbell rang, and Jon went to answer it, not knowing how interesting the experience would be for him or his family.
He opened it, and was surprised. He hadn't known what to expect. But he'd expected another family. Not a bunch of kids from school.
Standing at his door was Jay Duncan, Kyla Leeson, Leonard Drullers, and Gladys Brewer.
Kyla was thin, with blond hair tied back into a simple ponytail, and a studious look on her face.
Jay wore a button down shirt and slacks, and was built like a delicate scarecrow...not unlike Kyla. He was basically clean and neat, if not overly concerned with his physical appearance. That was a contrast to Leonard, who happened to be Jon's next door neighbor. Leonard wore a science-fiction themed t-shirt that looked like it had been rolled into a ball on his floor for a week after being worn to an enthusiastic dinner before being put on, and he smelled like aromatic cheese, sweat, garlic, and onions...Leonard was nice, but he was a terrible slob.
Gladys was sweet, kind, and occasionally a little naive. She spent a lot of her time at school avoiding those who teased her about her size.
They were all picked on by the popular crowd, often mercilessly. And it wasn't just verbal. They'd been tripped, vandalized...all the standard bullying tactics.
"Why don't you come in?" Linda Madison said, confused herself.
