The doorbell rang, and Jon went to answer it, not knowing how interesting the experience would be for him or his family.
Standing at the door was the Meshida family. Jon knew Yuki Meshida from school. She was a shy, timid Japanese girl who stood out not because she was Japanese. There were only a handful of Asian students at school, but it was more because of how...alien she acted.
She was shy, timid, and wore such modest clothing that she stood out like a sore thumb. She also had trouble with English that got worse the more flustered she got. And she got flustered a lot. On the positive side, she seemed sweet, and she was pretty, if not glamorous.
Her mother was wearing just as modest a dress as she was. Her father had a stern and disapproving look on his face. He wore a business suit, and was a sharp contrast to his son, who was Mikey's age, who wore jeans and a t-shirt.
Mikey looked over at Tommy Meshida. He knew Tommy was a bit weird, but tried very hard to fit in. That's why he'd used Tommy as an American nickname that sounded similar to his real name. But sometimes he tried too hard, and could be a bit annoying. Mikey had tried once to teach him about cartoons, but he'd said his father wouldn't let him watch television.
"Why don't you come in?" Linda Madison said, politely.
