Jon slid into the seat opposite Karyn in the lunchroom. "You wouldn't believe what the stone did..."
"You figured it out?" Karyn questioned.
"It turned Kyla Leeson into another Sarah McMillan."
"Another who?" Karyn asked. She only knew one McMillan and she was nothing like Kyla."
He paused. "Sarah McMillan. You know...the one who you wished you looked more like."
"Jon, that was Kyla..." Karyn paused. "You mean it wasn't? This is weird...you mean everything changed and I don't remember it?"
"Well, you didn't hear the wish," he said. "So, you don't remember Sarah McMillan? Really?"
"The only McMillan I know is Buffy," Karyn said, not liking this one bit.
"Buffy? Who is Buffy?"
"She's kind of shy and sweet, but she's a bit of a nerd."
"That's what Kyla is like," Jon said.
Karyn couldn't help laughing at the thought. "Kyla as a shy nerd...I wish I remembered that. She's been a bitch ever since she developed. And that boyfriend of hers...muscle-bound idiot..."
"You mean Biff?" He tested.
"Biff? No, I mean Jay Duncan. Now he's going after poor Buffy."
"Jay...is a muscle-bound idiot?"
"He's the captain of the football team. It's sort of like a requirement, isn't it?"
"This is all messed up," Jon declared. He looked around, and spotted that oddly familiar nerd who was fighting with Kyla. "Who is that?" He asked.
"Shawn Meadows," Karyn said. "What? He's not right either."
"Yesterday, the head cheerleader was Sarah McMillan. The captain of the football team was Biff Meadows. And Jay and Kyla were the nerds..." He glanced over at the nerd...and suddenly it all clicked. He couldn't hide the expression on his face as he looked back at Karyn. "The wish swapped the two biggest nerds and the two most popular kids in the school...except...it got it wrong. 'Shawn' is...really supposed to be a girl like Kyla..." he said, putting it in terms Karyn could get.
Karyn wrapped her brain around that, hard as it was. "What are you going to do about it?" She asked.
"What can I? Wishes can't be reversed."
"But...you wished for something interesting, not this. Just wish the wish didn't swap them."
"I could try, I guess," Jon said. "When I get home."
"So...if Shawn is supposed to be another Kyla, Buffy..."
"Must be Biff," Jon said. "I can't picture Biff as a girl."
Karyn gestured to a corner of the room where Buffy was eating quietly, reading a book. She was wearing a plain white blouse and a long beige skirt. Her long hair was pulled back into a ponytail. She didn't have glasses, like Kyla had had though. Squinting, he could almost see Biff in her face.
Jon cursed under his breath.
