"I can't believe you!" the nerd said, sounding angry.
Jon was staring at Kyla, but couldn't see her over the tall boy blocking his view. Finally, he shifted to the side...That blond hair, those luscious breasts partially hidden by her tight halter top (causing massive cleavage), those long tanned legs barely covered by her pleated micro-miniskirt, and feet encased in 4-inch open-toe heels.
It was a sharp contrast to the Kyla he knew, who was a plain sort of girl. Not unattractive, but not embodiment of sexiness.
"You can't believe I'm not interested in putting myself in harm's way? For what? Look at what could happen...Jeeze, and you are supposed to be the smart one," Kyla said.
"But...you won't even consider the idea that things are already different...we got caught in it, remember? Did you...have any dreams last night?" Shawn insisted.
Kyla paused at that, a bit uncomfortable thinking about the nightmare she'd had, the details of which were a bit hazy, thankfully. She'd woken up shaking. "So, what? After what happened yesterday?"
Shawn looked at her. "Did you ever consider that the dream was real?" He repeated. In his dream, he was Kyla..or someone like her. If he'd been born a girl, would he be like Kyla?
"Another good reason to not go chasing after what happened, loser. Do you think I want to be changed? I like my life. I mean, I could see why you might want to trade in your loser life for a better one, but me?"
He paused, thinking about that. She was right. From her perspective, she stood to lose. But... "There's one flaw in your argument. It suggests your life is better than mine," he said. She was really getting to him, and not just because she was the hottest girl in school.
It might have been because Kyla had taken over Shawn/Sarah's life, and on a subconscious level, Kyla represented everything Sarah was...so it was like talking to a mirror. But none of those thoughts occurred to Shawn. "People like me go to college, start internet companies, and become rich and successful. And people like you end up the real losers."
He turned to walk away, and Jon got a good glimpse of him...he wasn't muscular at all, and wasn't much taller or larger than Kyla herself, with short messy hair and thick glasses. He looked so familiar...but Jon just couldn't place the face.
Shawn needed to talk to someone. He was worried that if they lost themselves in this new life, without remembering who they were supposed to be, then The Cloud would have won. The problem was that he liked who he was...and the idea of being like Kyla bothered him. Maybe I should just...drop it?
He needed to find Buffy. Shawn didn't think that Jay Duncan was profound enough to even understand what he was trying to say, and he was likely to get beaten up for suggesting anything. He realized he hadn't seen Buffy since she'd left the mall the previous night.
It was sort of odd having a girl for a friend, when he was usually so awkward around them. But Buffy wasn't really a girl...well, she was a girl. She just...he didn't think of her in the same category. They were friends, after all. ~~
It surprised him how he could say what he did to Kyla when he'd never did anything like that...before? He paused again. Maybe I did do it before.
