I agree it could use a bit more structure in a few places.
You could think of this more as a playground to create characters... We've been contemplating a sequel, and I'm happy to hear any ideas if one is to be written. Maybe the next story will have more arc for the characters.
Regarding Lucas, I can still remember a lot of difficulty in integrating such a character. There were quite a few jump-the-shark moments to try and avoid and I thought to do one or two cruel twists of fate to fix that.
I thought it would be interesting that such a character would be the one to 'break' reality by her actions, unknowingly instigating everything- but also raising the stakes with each and every action until you get a universe erasure situation.
Don't know if I was successful, but I think it helped kept the story flowing without breaking into deux-ex-machina. Yes, Lucas could be a god in the machine... but the machine always takes a price for it. It would have been easy to make Lucas pay the price with her life... far worse that it was a simple ordinary girl ;)
