"Honestly, Sarah," Mrs. Levine said. "I don't know what to do with you," she said. "You're impossible." She shook her head. "Just get up and get dressed for school. You are not making me late again."
Sarah jumped up as the woman left her, unsure of what was going on. She quickly slipped on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans she found slung over a chair and grabbed a bag.
Oddly, she didn't really care if she was late for school or not. She had bigger things to worry about. But she did care, at least, about making Mrs. Levine late. The balance between those two things was making her confused.
She bounded down the stairs, wondering where her twin sister Jennifer was. Mrs. Levine was waiting in the kitchen for her with a bowl of cereal. "Be quick about it," she said, firmly.
She decided she needed to play along. She'd find Jennifer at school, maybe.
