Sarah had no choice but to try to pretend as if nothing was wrong. Since her sister...was she really starting to think of Athena that way?...seemed oblivious to any changes, she hoped someone out there knew what was going on.
Her thoughts were so on thinking about this that showering and getting dressed was done without much thought. But she did that most days, to the point at which she needed to think very little about it. It wasn't until she was done, and really focused on herself that she realized she'd reached for all the right things in a house she'd never seen before today.
"Sarah, are you almost ready?" Athena called.
"Coming!" She called, bounding down the stairs to where Athena was standing, holding a set of car keys.
The car ride to school was mostly silent, except for Athena's iPod. Athena's car was a clean four door sedan that was not exactly new. The iPod was actually hooked into a cassette player in the dash. What car still had a cassette player?
As Sarah got out of the car, she felt suddenly overwhelmed again, seeing her school in front of her. It looked exactly as she remembered, even if she didn't.
Students were starting to filter in, some from the parking lot, some arriving on foot. She turned around, but Athena was already talking to two other girls. She moved to get a better look at who they were when someone called out her name.
