Jon reached out and touched MODIFY and felt the same soft shock as his fingers passed through the floating letters. The list of options was replaced by a new list; CUT, COPY, and PASTE. What the hell was this, Jon wondered? Could he now edit people? Just like the world was one big word processor? There was only one way to find out.
The letters in PASTE were flat and grey, while the other two glowed brightly. Guess there's nothing to paste yet, Jon thought. That left CUT and COPY. His mind reeled at the thought of what would happen if he cut Zoe out of the fabric of reality and couldn't undo it. So that left COPY.
He poked at the word, and was met with a list of three new options: PHYSICAL, MENTAL, and MATERIAL, whatever that meant, with a checkbox next to each, and the letters OK at the bottom. Not knowing what else to do, he checked all three, and touched OK. The menu immediately disappeared and Zoe again became animated.
"...threw my dirty laundry on your bed or something!" she finished the sentence she'd started ten minutes earlier. "It's disgusting!!"
"Ok, ok. Got it," Jon mumbled before Zoe stormed off. Jon wondered if maybe he should've picked ERASE instead. Oh well. He finished his cereal and started to wonder what he'd actually done, when his father came in and poured himself a cup of coffee.
"Morning sport. Ready for school?"
"Yeah," Jon said with a sigh. Then he wondered. He looked at his father, and concentrated for a moment.
"What's the matter Jon, you feeling..."
His father stopped. Frozen, just as Zoe had been. Jon grinned. He was starting to get the hang of this.
