"What the hell?" Zoe uttered, suddenly wondering why she used the word "hell" and not the word "fuck" (like she usually did), even though that's what she intended on saying. One moment, Jon's Goth sister Zoe was hanging out with her friends Athena and Zelda, and then the next she was standing in this weird room full of computer screens and lights. Zoe was never into science fiction, so she never watched "Star Trek: Voyager".
She turned and looked towards the far end of the room and saw a large pillar filled with a pulsing blue light. If she had watched the series, she would know that that large pillar was the warp core and that she was currently in the engineering section of the ship. But as far as she knew, she could have been in a fun house at an amusement park. Like the one with the weird mirrors.
"Lieutenant Torres, are you alright?" asked a man wearing a yellow and black uniform.
"Are you talking to me?" Zoe asked.
"You are Lieutenant Zoe Torres, aren't you?" the crewman asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes. I mean, no. Did you say Torres?" Zoe was confused. What exactly was happening here? She touched her forehead, feeling a headache coming on, and that's when she noticed that there was something wrong with her head. She felt ridges on her forehead. She ran towards one of the reflective surfaces in the room and stared at her reflection. She was some sort of freak.
"Lieutenant Torres, is something wrong?" the crewman asked.
"What happened to my forehead?" Zoe asked.
"Uh ... nothing. You're part Klingon. You're supposed to look like that." He paused, then said "Maybe you should go see the doctor. You seem ... disturbed."
"I don't need any stupid doctor," Zoe snapped. There it was again. The word "stupid" replaced the word "fucking". What the fuck was happening?
