The name sounded very familiar. He reached for the remote and pressed the Info button, to tell him the name of the current program playing. "Jefferson Lake," and the description, "Alex gets caught up in town politics when..."
He remembered the show. It was one of his mother's favorites. She used to watch it when he was a kid. It was in reruns now, and focused on this single young doctor who moves her family to a new town.
The doctor who was sitting in his living room. "Look," she said, "I don't know what's going on here..."
Mikey came into the room. "What's for dinner?" He asked the stranger. Both Jon and Alex looked at him, but he sat down, oblivious to the problem.
Both tried to figure out what was going on, when the program returned from commercial. There was Jane, his mother, feeding breakfast to two kids. Neither the kids nor Jon's mother seemed to be acting oddly.
"Mom, can I change to cartoons?" Mikey asked Alex.
Jon frowned, noticing the caption on the screen had changed. It now said..."Jane gets caught up in town politics..." Somehow, his mother had swapped places with a fictional character.
