Decades later, Karyn had tried several wishes to get Jon back. But she knew wishes couldn't be reversed. But Jon hadn't wished to be stranded in 1986. She just had to find the right wish.
He'd already been missing for a day and she'd had to wish up a convenient excuse for his absence.
She was still carrying around the article clipping she'd found. She knew the place to get more answers...the school library.
"Mrs. Finch," Karyn said. She wondered why a woman who seemed to hate students so much worked in a school.
The woman stared down her glasses at Karyn. "Yes?"
"I found this newspaper clipping from 1986," she said, showing the woman. "I was curious and wanted to learn more about what happened."
The woman studied the clipping. "I remember this...this is from the town paper. Check the 1986 yearbook. There was a tribute to her in there, I think. Over there," she pointed.
Karyn went to the shelf. She found two books from 1986. The 1986 Freshman Facebook, and the 1986 Yearbook. She started with the Facebook...she saw a few names she recognized as she flipped through the pages to P. Pierce, Jenny. As she stared at it...some handwriting appeared below the picture. To KB: The Mirror, Book Sale."
She blinked and remembered the last time she and Jon had been in the library. They'd been looking at the pile of books that Mrs Finch trying to sell for quarters before she threw them out. Some of them hadn't been taken out in years.
She rushed to the pile and looked through the names and finally found it. The Mirror by Marlys Millhiser. She opened it up and pulled out the card in the back that showed when it had been taken out. Due May of 1986...checked out by Jenny Pierce.
Jon was trying to send her a message.
