As Jon continued to look around nervously, the doorbell rang. "Oh no," he groaned to himself. He was about to run away back to his bedroom (or anywhere, just as long as it was as far away from people as possible), but he didn't know how far away he needed to be. But then, as he thought about it, surely someone in the neighborhood would be having at least one moment of wishful thinking right now, but he wasn't experiencing any sudden flashes of light, like he did on the stairs and in the living room. This caused him to believe that there was a small radius of effect, maybe no more than ten or fifteen feet.
The doorbell rang again, grabbing his attention. Thinking that he could just send them away, he opened the door to see who it was.
