Sydney fell into a light sleep and began to dream. Dogs did dream, usually about things not unlike the activities they participated in during the day.
In Sydney's dreams, she was once again having dinner, as she had earlier that evening, sitting at the dining room table with the others, except Jon, who was eating at her feet. It was a pleasant recent memory...getting the good food. And as she dreamed about it, she realized she'd enjoyed it.
She'd always been comfortable being taken care of. It meant she didn't always get the best food, or the best sleeping place. She'd never been much of a social climber. She knew that the other two females in the house, Zoe and Linda, were fighting for dominance. She liked Linda, and didn't want that to change.
Linda had been extra nice to her today, giving her the good food and having her fed before Jon. Was she seeking Sydney's help to put Zoe in her place? She hadn't considered today that her place in the pack might be changing, as excited as she was by the new hind legs she'd been playing with.
She decided she would make Linda proud of her.
