Jon was still a little tired, even though he slept in a little more than usual. He turned and looked at his clock - 6:30 AM.

"Darn," he muttered, as he pulled his covers back and hopped out of bed. School started at 8:00 AM. If he hurried, he might be able to make it on time.

He ran into the bathroom, afraid if he waited much longer his younger sister would get in there, and then he'd never have enough time. He showered, washing his long hair with flower-scented Natural Essences for Men. He finished the shower and hurried back to his room to slip into his pink briefs, tight-fitting jeans and a blue t-shirt, then ran past Zoe before she could get into the bathroom to put on his makeup.

He had no idea why he was so tired. He had never slept in this late before. Not on a school day. A boy needed time to prepare...didn't he? Something about the statement seemed odd to him.

He hurried down to grab breakfast, by this time it was after 7. "Jon, don't you have school soon?" his mother asked.

"Mom, I ..." He stopped when he saw what she was wearing. It was a woman's business suit - white blouse, black blazer, tie, and black pants. Something seemed odd. "What are you wearing?" he asked.

She looked oddly at him. "What I always wear to the office? Lawyers can't come in looking like slobs."

"Lawyer?" That seemed odd to him. It was if the entire world, normal as it was, seemed off, but why seemed to be just out of reach, as if forgotten.

Now she looked even more oddly at him. "Are you sick?" She asked, feeling his head. "Do you need to go to the doctor," she said.

More and more, it felt like this had something to do with that vague wish he made the previous night. Something was wrong. He needed to make a wish to find out what was going on.

"Well, if you aren't sick, you'd better get to school," his mother said, authoritatively.

He was already carrying his bag, and she looked serious, so he made a beeline for the door, past his little sister, who got ready in record time. How girls could get ready so quickly he never would know.
