Quests are optional secondary objectives that you can do for a reward. You can refuse almost any quest without consequence, but there might be some for not doing a quest already accepted. Most quests are generated and evolve depending of your actions, so don't worry if you see a quest change or disappear after some time has passed or after you do something..
Emily couldn't help but smile after hearing this despite her worries. She would have been skeptical in any other game, but this game was magic, so she didn't doubt it would be great. "I just hope the rewards are not turning me even more into a girl." She said to herself.
The quests are not normally indicated by the game, so you'll have to interact with the world around you to discover them. Some might even be created during your conversation with someone. However, for this tutorial, we'll show the location of your first quest on the map.
Karyn looked at her map where a yellow dot had appeared. "It looks like it's in the marketplace where we were a bit earlier." Emily nodded and began to walk toward their next objective, Karyn leading her with the map.
The marketplace was even more crowded than before. "How are we going to find the quest in all this?" Emily asked while looking around.
"It looks like it's moving around a bit but it's pretty close to you, somewhere to your right." Emily looked where Karyn had pointed. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first, but a woman quickly drew his attention. She was looking around as if searching for something and looked panicked. Emily looked back at Karyn but she just shrugged. "Try to talk to her. She's in the right place at least."
Emily nodded and walked to the woman. "Excuse me. I saw you looking around, do you need help?"
The woman looked at Emily in surprise. "You..." She hesitated a moment before deciding she had nothing to lose. "I can't find my daughter. She disappeared while I was shopping for food. Can you help me find her?"
Suddenly, the world paused once more. "Karyn. Are you making me say something again?" Emily asked.
"No. The game gave me the quest, and I have to choose whether or not I accept it."
Emily raised an eyebrow in interest. "Does it say what the reward will be?"
"No, there's only question marks there."
Emily sighed. "I hope it's not going to change me more."
"So... Do I still accept it?" Karyn asked.
"Yeah, we'll be here forever if we don't take risks."
As suddenly as it stopped, the world began moving again and Emily was forced to say. "Sure, I'll help you."
"Thank you!" The woman said. "You search to the north, I'll search to the south and we return here in 10 minutes, alright?"
"Wait!" Emily called the woman who was already walking away. "What does your daughter look like?"
"Oh... Sorry. Her name is Lyla. She's seven years old, with brown hair styled in pigtails. She's wearing a blue dress, and she always carries a doll with her." She said in a hurry then began walking away again. "I'll see you in 10 minutes."
The north of the marketplace was thankfully less crowded than the south. The stalls here didn't sell food, but rather things like tableware, clothes or jewellery, things people didn't need to buy too often. So there was a lot of space for Emily and Karyn to search for the girl. However, it wasn't as simple as they thought it'd be.
"God! Where is she?" Emily shouted in frustration. It had already been more than 5 minutes but there was no sign of her, no matter where they looked. "This marketplace isn't that big!"
"Maybe she's on the other side, and her mother found her?" Karyn proposed.
"I don't think so. It might be magic, but I don't think the game would make a quest that made us search for something that's not there. We must be missing something..."
"I don't know, J... Emily. I think we've looked everywhere, unless she's hiding inside a stall."
Emily sighed. "We might as well try." She headed for a nearby stall where a man was selling fabric. "Excuse me, have you seen a little girl alone around here?"
"A little girl in a blue dress?" The man asked.
Emily made a shocked expression. She didn't expect this to work so well. "Yes! I'm searching for her. Do you know where she is?"
The man stroked his beard. "I think I saw her go down that alley around 10 minutes ago." He pointed at a nearby alleyway. "I found it odd because it's a dead end and I've never seen..."
"Thank you!" Emily interrupted him. "I'm sorry but I have to go!" She began running toward the alley.
"Well... Alright..." The man said as he watched her go.
