"We could just wait it out. Wishes are instantaneous, but once the time limit you set is reached, they fade more gradually. It's weird to watch, kind of like when you peel off layers of paint to reach the original color."
"What if I'm right, and you're the one who has reality wrong?"
"Then...I really need a followup wish, because I'm not spending the rest of my life like this."
"I'm supposed to meet Karyn on the way to school," Jon said.
Zoe cringed. "I have to go out in public like this?"
"If it helps, she cuts class as often as she goes..."
"Jeeze," Zoe said, wiggling out of the boots. "I'm going to go see if she has any sneakers, at least."
She headed back across the hall and Jon went and quickly showered. He couldn't believe the idea he might really be a girl. But anything seemed possible, owning the stone. He didn't feel like a girl though. And everything else Zoe said...about the other reality coming back...He hoped she wasn't right.
