Karyn was silent for a moment, looking at the window that had appeared. She had theorized the game could comprehend them, but she believed it was more a reaction to some trigger words and phrases. But now, this pretty much confirmed the game could understand everything. "It really worked... The game really can understand us!" She told Emily with a melange of fear and excitation.
"Great..." Emily grumbled in response. He didn't share that excitation. Instead, he was thinking worriedly that he would need to be extra careful with what he said, as it might prompt the game to make other changes to him. "So do you have the tutorial back?"
Karyn closed the current window and indeed, the tutorial was back. The next few steps were pretty uneventful, only explaining what everything in the menu was. The only somewhat interesting thing for Emily was the confirmation that FEM indeed stood for femininity, eliciting a grumble from him, but its effect weren't made clear. However, the inventory and equipement tabs where noticeably ignored, probably because they were empty right now. Karyn was paying close attention tying to comprehend everything but Emily was bored.
He tried occupying himself by looking around the room, but much like the door, the wardrobe and the bedside table were locked. So instead, he spent his time looking outside the window. He could see large fields outside and a forest in the distance, but no other habitation. It wasn't much to look at, but it still helped him take his mind off his problems for now. That, however, didn't last as his body began moving on his own again.
"What the... Karyn?" Emily asked, surprised as he looked up at her while he walked across the room.
He saw Karyn's lips move without sound for a few seconds before he could hear her once again "... Emily. The game asked me to look in the wardrobe. I thought it would open by itself, sorry."
"God! This really feels weird" Emily complained as she was coming near the wardrobe. "But Karyn, I checked the wardrobe before, I couldn't open it." Just as he said that, his arms opened the wardrobe without any problem. "What?" He looked confused. "I swear it was closed before!"
Karyn looked confused for a moment too. "Game?" She asked. "Why couldn't Emily open the wardrobe?" A new window suddenly came into existence before her eyes.
This wardrobe is part of the tutorial and couldn't be opened before the time was right.
"Wait! The game answered you when you asked it a question?" Emily asked in astonishment.
"Yeah. While you were distracted, you didn't answer one of my questions, so I tried asking the game and it worked!" Emily thought Karyn sounded way too enthusiastic about this. "Although it can't tell me everything because it supposedly could spoil the rest of the game."
Emily didn't know what to say. On one hand, he was glad Karyn could learn quickly and more easily about the game, but on the other, he couldn't help but be wary of this game. "Well... I guess that's good." He said without conviction.
"Don't worry too much!" Karyn said at the visible worry on her friend's face. "I'm only learning about the game, if I sense it trying to influence me in any way, I promise I'll stop. It's not like it can do anything to me anyway, I'm not in the game."
"Still... I don't trust it." Emily simply said.
Karyn smiled at him. "Me neither, don't worry. But it's our best and only source of information right now and it would be dumb not to use it."
Emily sighed. "Fine... So what did it say?"
"It said it was part of the tutorial and you couldn't open it until I got there."
Emily thought for a moment. "That makes sense, I guess..." He admitted. It was a tutorial for Karyn, she wouldn't learn anything if he did everything in her stead. He finally refocused his attention toward the wardrobe. "Well, let's see what we've got."
Inside were surprisingly few things, a plain brown dress, what looked like an old pair of granny panties and a pair of leather boots. As he was examining then, Emily's arms began moving on their own once more and picked up the boots, but just as he was lifting them, they disappeared into thin air. "Sorry!" He heard Karyn say. "I keep forgetting that what I do makes you move."
"What happened? The boots disappeared." Emily asked, his involuntary movements temporarily forgotten.
"The game says it's in my... our inventory." Karyn answered before warning him. "I'm picking up the rest, get ready!" And almost immediately, Emily's arms once more reached into the wardrobe and picked up the garments... wich soon disappeared the same way.
Emily shivered a bit. "I really don't like that. It feels like I don't have any strength and am being moved like a puppet..." He explained for his friend who was smiling awkwardly. "It's weird how they disappear in my hands too..."
"Well, the next tutorial is about the inventory. You'll probably get them back soon enough." She informed him. "And I'll stop seeing you naked." She whispered so he didn't hear. It was hard to say if she was relieved or disappointed.
Emily had been naked for some time now, but it was almost like he didn't see it anymore. As if on cue, he heard Karyn's voice "J... Emily!" she called, still not being used to his new name. "The tutorial is telling me to equip you with your new clothes. I don't know if it will make you do something so I thought I'd let you know."
Emily smiled. "Sure! I've had enough of being naked anyway." Karyn smiled back before he saw her looking at the menu on her screen.
