Zoe saw her mom in the kitchen. She was putting the dishes from the dishwasher into the cabinets. Despite her fowl attitude, she was still her mom.
"Mom?" Zoe asked.
"Now's really NOT a good time, Zoe!" She replied.
"I know, Mom. I just want to make sure everything's fine between you and Mikey."
"Everything will be fine. You know that. You know I love him, but we fight as a lot of mothers and sons do. We'll get over it, but right now, I honestly don't want to see the little brat."
Zoe realized that despite the tension, Mikey and her mom were fighting like siblings now. There was still love there, but it was just hard to see it. It wouldn't be so bad, but she still needed to reverse it.
She spied the magic book on the counter. Her mom had placed it there while she was emptying the dishwasher. It may have been her chance. She reached for it, but her mom saw her.
"Zoe! What do you think you are doing!? That's mine, and you know it." Her mom said.
"Sorry, I was just curious!"
"Well, butt out, okay?" Something in Zoe's hand caught her mom's eye, "And what are you doing with my stone?"
"YOUR stone?"
Her mom began to feverishly flip through the pages of the spell book looking for something to cast. Zoe realized she may need to act fast with the stone if she hoped to keep it.
