Catherine was starting to feel better, she really liked hanging out with these girls, who she didn't really know.
"So...Gina...where to next?" Catherine asked.
"I'm Kelsey, she's Gina" Kelsey answered.
"Oh I'm so sorry! You've been so nice to me and then I make a mistake like that. I really am a ditz I guess."
"Aw it's ok, we're friends, Cat, it happens. " Gina responded.
And just like that Catherine felt very comfortable with these girls, like she had known them forever, they stopped being two girls who were hanging around her and started being G and Kells, her friends. It stopped being strange that she was called Cat by them, that was just what they did. It was their 'thing'.
"Oh shit." Kelsey said
Catherine looked over, expecting to see Gary, where had he gotten off to? Instead it was something far less pleasant.
Sarah with her crew, were strutting down the halls of the mall. They made sure to let everyone know that they ruled whatever area they were in, be it school or the mall. No place was safe, they ruled by fear and by intimidation. There was some strenght in numbers, which as captain of the cheer squad she had, but there was greater streangth in beauty and insults, which they were masters of. Just seeing them coming at her made Caterine shrink inside.
Sarah wasted no time turning her eye to Catherine.
"Trying again are we kitty cat? Another lame attempt to be cool."
Sarah pulled her close.
"it takes more than cloths to make you cool. and lets be honest." Sarah gave her a mock apraising look. "you've done better.'
She pulled out again. "but that's all you guys are. Wantabe's"
The girls laughed mockingly as they moved past. Again something happened in Catherine. She felt hurt, in fact she felt like crying, but it was because she so desperately wanted to be one of those girls. But she was the only one of the girls who felt that way.
Then Gary showed up and ruined everything.
