Kyla stared in awe at the girl in the mirror. Suddenly she was different, but she felt the same. This was her face, her hair, her body, just in every way better, and in every way on display. She was pretty now...why was she so pretty now?
There wasn't time, a noise interrupted her. She turned to notice a shy looking girl, dressed plainly, glasses, short hair...wait she...
"Sarah?" Kyla wondered allowed but it came out like she couldn't remember the name, but as if in deference the girl replied in a small voice.
"Kyla?" Sarah spoke softly, as if she didn't want anyone to notice her speaking, though she didn't mean to. Sarah suddenly felt small, for the first time in her life she felt less than in front of Kyla. What had happened? Why was Kyla so pretty? Why am I so scared...Sarah thought.
"You look great." was what Sarah offered up, it was a little in observation, but it came out sounding sycophantic, as if she was offering praise for safe passage.
Kyla was even more shocked, here was Sarah, princess of the school telling her how great she looked, and somehow, some way...the mirror agreed with Sarah's statement. There was a part of Kyla that just accepted what Sarah said as a sort of fact and not the basic comment that it was. Wait...did this Sarah...was this normal? What was she supposed to say back. Sarah looked terrible, particularly compared to her old self, but in general, and in contrast to her....just be nice Kyla thought.
"You...look...(don't be mean) nice." Kyla sold that statement like a warm cup of wine on a mid summer day.
Sarah could feel the lie in those words and suddenly felt terrible, something was horribly wrong, she had to get out of here...she wanted to run.
"Here on a date?" Kyla followed up, Sarah usually was on a date with Biff, that was normal...why wasn't any of this normal?
"Do I look it?" Sarah retorted, she felt like she was being toyed with, she knew the punch was coming, she had set these traps before.
Kyla didn't know what to say to that, it was like having a normal conversation in reverse, she had never been on this side of things.
"Do I?" Kyla mused back, catching her own eyes in the mirror as she did and doing a double take, not used to seeing herself.
That was the thing that tipped off Sarah.
"wait...you know?" Sarah said suddenly catching Kyla off guard.
"Know what?"
That we just freaky friday'd, I'm you, you're me. How'd you do it?"
"I didn't do anything! I was going to the bathroom and I came out of the stall looking." She gestured to herself with a slender arm..."and then you came over all"
"Well give it back!" Sarah responded.
"I don't know how!" nor did that idea seem particularly great to Kyla, when suddenly an idea struck her, she grabbed her phone. "wait...were you on a date?"
"Why does that matter?" Sarah asked.
"Because I think that means I am now." Kyla held up her phone with a new text message.
"with who?" Sarah asked.
"I don't know"
