some time after the sun changed back to normal...
A young doe woman, was walking on her way to church. The clicks of her bare hooves could be heard, as she tugged her reasonably pleasent sunday dress. It was hard to get a grip with it though, as she lacked proper thumbs. Her eyes were distant and an unfathomable expression haunts her. Her clothes didn't show any cleavage, but she did look quite respectable. A summer hat hid her auburn hair. Entering the new church she took her seat, in the far back.
There were a few curious glances to the animal-woman, but mostly she was left alone.
The Pastor was there. A human male by name of Father Jonathan. He was a kind looking man, looking to be in his forties. As one they all rose. "Welcome, to the Church of Selene. Today we will hear the gospel and the lessons learned, of the one that tried to challenge our goddess... the mortal wolf, known as Julian, whom wished to consume the Rabbit of the Moon and replace her divinity with his own."
The doe-woman watched impassively, leaning back a little on her chair. A strange ripple of an expression on her as the events were relayed. she glanced at the images on the stain glass window, of the wolf... the 'Devil' aspect of this religion. After the sun changed, a lot of humans took to moon-worship. The Moon was seen as the protector from the strange transformation of the sun. The world of night was the world of humans and those who wished to stay human.
... for six months.
Then it all changed again to- 'mostly' normal. Humans had a lot of ways to perceive these events. A test of faith, perhaps? Or a sign that worship had been working? Or maybe they didn't pray enough? You could never tell quite what humans would do under these circumstances. What was an immutable fact though was that if you wanted to stay human, you could only be out and about under the protection of the moon and hence the goddess Selene. Worshippers formed, and the rise of a cult into a full blown religion.
Rumours became gospels, and gospels made it into their holy book.
The pastor nodded to his flock, with the symbol of the moon draped on his pedestal. "I will now relate the story as it has been written. Know that the Dark Moon rose at the median of the Sun, close to five months at the Time of Light. The Dark Moon had a name: Julian. He, and he alone, attempted to usurp the position of our goddess, by his ravenous hunger. Drawn he was, by Her beauty and jealous of her position as our protector. The Mad Wolf danced and the rabbit played with him, Naturally curious, but always the smarter and brighter due to her true divinity. our goddess, Blessed be the name of Selene, had a champion. The angel Lucas, chosen representative of humans, and Saviour. For Selene loves all and has a special place in her heart for those who wish to remain human as the angel demonstrated, by her appearance. Know that if you are changed, you are still human in Her eyes!"
"Blessed be the name Lucas," the flock murmured.
The Doe girl remained silent but... this particular sermon was setting her on edge.
"The Mad Wolf had lost all that he had desired, and the Great Goddess cast the arrogant mortal to the Earth in eternal damnation and punishment in the form of a grotesque beast. His seed is said to wonder the Earth in the dark. Be wary of the Beast's seed that would cause harm. Know that no good can ever come from the Seed of this Evil, and be protected in Selene's light."
With the Sermon over, Julia wondered around the church a little shakily. The actions of the numbers, the sun changed... all of it, immortalised into religious scriptures and writings. She half wondered if anyone was praying to the 'devil' aspect of the religion- to her old wolf form. If only they knew he was dead... Julia was the only thing left.
This is what she inspired... at least partly. Even now, Lucas was the great hero... and she... the devil. The arrogant mortal... the blasphemer, who only wanted more... to have what Lucas was given! Even now thinking about it... when all she wanted...
"Mom?" Whispered a voice quietly.
Julia turned to the voice startled. It was a little doe girl. She didn't even think as she ran...
she ran out of the church and as far away as she could.
