Lucas walked ahead, stretching her wings a little.
This was actually quite exciting to her. For years after the defeat of the enemy- THE enemy, of reality itself... things had become very... quiet. That was all well and good, but she relished in the chaos of the unsuspecting future, the unknown... and there was a small concern that things were going along a bit too smoothly.
But here she was, exploring an alien city on a planet so close to Earth... connected by a bridge made of rainbows.
Sometimes, life was sweet.
There appeared to be 'cars' made of small squares and triangles. All were made of the same gleaming metallic silver colour, and had no engine or... anything that could account for its locomotion. Unlike the buildings, these were all two dimensional- or at least, as far as Bryan could tell. They hovered a few feet above the road, moving by some kind of magnetic force.
Most of these things were empty with no passengers. Some had the occasional clockwork robot creature. However, they did not seem to be going anywhere. They just travelled the same path over... and over. They made such strange circles and what looked like pointless journeys, or were watching hedges just to trim them again as soon as it was needed.
Bryan felt a lot of pity for them. Were they created by beings that had forgotten them? Did these robots consider this city their home? Would... humans decide to take it from them? It's not as if they offered any resistance- they were actually very helpful in taking them around their world.
They just didn't answer any questions.
"Take us to the circle," said Lucas to one of the clockworks robots.
The clockwork looked blankly.
"Sphere," corrected Astra.
The clockwork creature gave a slight nod and gestured to the road with an erratic click of its spring.
A strange square shaped platform rose above the street, the section it left behind closing like a skin of healing metal. Each stood on it, much like they saw the robots do. Despite the motion it made, there was no feeling of wind... it was almost like flying. They turned sharp corners, and must have travelled for miles... at very high speed.
The city must have been gigantic...
Astra didn't seem all that concerned with the alien city, but Bryan thought it so wondrous. Maybe it was because he was still human, and nothing interesting ever happened to him. So for things like this, he was able to appreciate.
Astra was only awed when they saw the central sphere. It... was huge. By far, the largest building they had ever seen. It was like a skyscraper, dominating the entire landscape. The other buildings seemed to give a lot of space to the sphere, as if afraid of it...
Bryan was starting to get nervous too, as they passed by what seemed miles and miles of nothing, before reaching the gleaming metallic surface of this central building... it even seemed to hover- but from what he could tell, it was standing on a perfectly smooth surface, yet... was not rolling- or was it? It was hard to tell... the surface was so smooth, so shiny- there was no way to tell if it was spinning.
Astra stared at it some more. "That- impossible," she said.
"What is is Astra?" Asked Lucas.
"...Perfect sphere," she said. "more perfect then a neutron star." How can such a perfect sphere exist on a planet?
The strange car took them to what was some kind of 'entrance', marked only by two strange symbols on either side. It looked like circles, within more circles... very strange, considering the polygon nature of the outer city.
"Thanks," said Lucas to the Clockwork 'driver'. "So, lets go in."
The trio walked to the building... but could not find any way inside. Lucas thrust her hand onto the surface, and found it going through. "Ah... I guess we just step through," she said.
