Nadine awoke slowly, then more quickly when she realized that she was bound to a chair.
"Ah, you're finally awake, huh?" a man's voice asked.
"Who's there? Who are you?"
"My name is Dr. Louis DeGonia."
"You're the bastard that kidnapped my mom, aren't you?" Nadine asked, struggling to get free.
"You know, your mom wouldn't appreciate such language," he said. "Well, the current one. The one you remember, however..."
"What did you do to her?"
"Well, to be honest...we needed someone who wouldn't be missed. A low-class waitress would do. You see, I have a potential outlet for my technology...and I do need to test it to prove it works. And you can see, the first tests did....she wasn't supposed to wander off, of course. In her mind, she is...well, a prude, and you are her perfect daughter. The religious beliefs were a bit much, but we were testing how we could reinforce her new behavior."
"Fix her."
"Oh, that is possible...remember, we didn't intend for her to escape until the experiment is done. I've sent someone to find her. She's actually in danger. Remember, everyone she remembers...isn't as she remembers them. Your mind tends to fill in where the technology doesn't. So, she may trust the wrong people. But don't worry about it too much."
"Why not?"
A low humming suddenly began to fill her head. "Because I'm a doctor...and you'll be feeling better soon." he said, in an almost soothing voice. He couldn't have this one running off.
He'd get Subject Four back soon enough, but he couldn't have his new subject helping her.
