"What da hell you be startin' up shit with Shauna Jones, girl?" Ka'Mesha asked, helping Sa'Rhonda to her feet. "You know dat white bitch runs dis place. Hell, her whole family - dey run this town. All dat white privilege and shit, ya know? Dey's got money, power ... you stir up trouble, and it's more den yo ass."
"She right, girl," came the recognizable voice of someone Sa'Rhonda had "met" earlier that morning, on the bus.
"Tiffany?" Sa'Rhonda asked, feeling grateful that one of her friends from her old life was still friends with her now, though she wasn't quite the same, obviously. Like almost all the other high school kids, she was black now too. But at least she still had the same name.
"Tiffany? Who's dat?" she answered back, confused. "I's Fantasia. You knows dat."
Okay, scratch that. It looked like Tiffany had gone through a name change as well. It seemed that the more time that went on, it was harder for Sa'Rhonda to see who people used to be. Oh, she still remembered the previous reality. But things were changing to the point where this almost seemed like an entirely unfamiliar place to her. As much as she wanted Fantasia to be Tiffany, she would never be the white girl she knew, not even in the slightest. She might as well have been an entirely different person.
"Oh, don't look now," Ka'Mesha said sourly. "It's Shauna's BFF Allison."
That name caught Sa'Rhonda's attention. Did she mean Allison Wright? As in Sa'Rhonda's only best black friend (in the old reality where she was Sarah)? But when she looked in the direction that Ka'Mesha and Fantasia were looking, all she saw was a white girl with blonde hair. Wait ... was that her? She supposed it made sense, though, right? So far, it looked like everyone who was white was now black (though, she thought some might also be hispanic). Didn't it make sense that everyone who was black before might now be white? She knew it happened to La'Shawndra, so why not Allison as well?
