"What are we going to do?" Jon's mother Jane asked her husband.
Suddenly, there was the sound of crashing garbage cans coming from just outside their house. Jane stood up from the couch and walked towards the sound.
"Jane? What are you doing?" her husband Mark asked.
"The sun is on the other side of the house. I think I can look outside safely enough." She didn't wait for Mark to protest. She pulled back the curtain a bit and saw a blond woman rummaging through their garbage. The woman was wearing a sexy mini-dress that was covered in grass stains and mud. At first Jane didn't recognize her, but then the woman looked up at her.
She couldn't believe it. It was Susan McMillan, one of the richest and sexiest women in town. Her forehead looked a little more pronounced, but it was definitely her. Susan snarled at her, then returned to digging through their garbage. She picked up a half-eaten rotten apple, looked at it like it was some sort of foreign object, sniffed it, then took a bite.
"That's enough," Mark said, closing the curtain. "I don't want you turning into one of those things."
Meanwhile, Jon was trying to figure out what was happening. Holding the stone, he said "I wish I knew if that weird sun is because of the stone." It was. "I wish I knew how the stone passed its range limit." Apparently, it was a freak alignment of the stars and the range was now back to normal.
Oh, great, Jon thought sourly. What could he do now?
