Steven sat on her desk.
The conversation with her mother made her feel a lot better. It was nice that someone at least had a vague idea of her biology. Being human had seemed so... simple. Plants were hideously complex, and she had no idea quite where the plant in her started, and the human in her ended. She bled green blood when her petals were cut, would she bleed green if she pricked her finger?
Given that her hue seemed for the most part unchanged, she guessed not. A blush was still reddish on her face. So did that mean there were two distinct circulatory systems? Maybe it wasn't quite like that... but she didn't know what she was. Aside that she was a plant-girl.
She apparently made seeds, fortunately without fruit... (as yet). but the more she thought about her mother's advice, the more she realised she was making a lot of sense. Yes- she was afraid of what her body did when it threw out seeds, but perhaps they had no more potential life then a skin flake left by a human. It might take a great deal of effort to get anything to grow out of it... although certainly, one can encourage skin to multiply- to an extent.
Seeds would be more robust then human cells... but they were not animal cells. Therefore, only plant cells could possibly form.
It was an over simplification of the whole affair, but it certainly satisfied her. The only question that remained was, why now? Why did her body decide to produce seeds at this point. It couldn't be due to her experiments last.. night.. could it? It was too soon!
"Steven."
"Huh- what?" Steven immediately got quiet, as she saw the form of their teacher, Mary. Why did she give her the absolute shivers! Not quite like Tiffany did. Tiffany was alien and creepy... this was like... feeling as a child. Which- might be true, given she was a teacher. "Yes. Miss?" Asked the plant girl.
Mary seemed to consider the plant girl for a moment. "I have an assignment for you."
The plant girl gulped. "just- me miss?" She asked.
"Yes. It's quite a simple one," She said.
Oh boy, here it comes. Mary always gave a 'unique' assignment to each of her students. They always seemed random, and purposeless. At least when she heard other peoples assignments. Still... some people seemed happier after doing them. Maybe that's what made her a good teacher.
"Chilli", she said after a vague thought.
"Wait- what?" asked Steven. Chilli? She's got an assignment on 'Chilli?! "Well- oh- kay?" she said a little weirded out by the assignment.
"Have a read on how they make the really hot peppers dear," She smiled. "Turn it in.. when you please."
"No time limit?" She asked.
"None what so ever... Though I do expect it when finished."
Steven gulped. She thought she best go about it.
Lilly was bored now.. outside of class... at home. Nothing to do.
She glanced at her brother, who was sitting on a second sofa across her. They had a very cosy living room, and the television was on. She decided to flick through the channels but there was little that interested her. There also seemed to be a lot of commercials on. Why did they put commercials on at the same time when nothing was on?
"Out of work due to the sunlight? Call us! We'll fight for your case! Sunny Lawyers and change! For a brighter future under the sun. " The television announced.
It took a moment for Lilly to work out what a lawyer was. It was all part of the world of grown-ups. A world she was struggling to remember.
In that world... she tried to join a gang. She also thought Lilly and Artemis were now a bit like a gang... but that just wasn't true. How they treated her back then was nothing like how Lilly and artemis treated her. It was only because she acted as if it was a gang. They had their own powers, their own things- things that she couldn't be part of... things she wished she could be part of.
It wasn't that she had to prove herself to them. They didn't demand anything of her... another thing that made this situation different. It wasn't due to her gender. She was just unable to help them- and she did want to help them right? Not for respect but because they were her friends.
She now felt terribly ashamed. She didn't want them angry at her- but- she sighed. what could she do? They wouldn't really keep her from being happy, would they? Jenny was so kind and nice. She was the last person she could think of, who would hurt anyone...
she had been so stupid. She just- reacted. If she had actually thought about it..
There were still more commercials on the grown-up channels. She looked at it with some bemusement, although one thing caught her eye.
"Are you unhappy with your transformation? Considering cosmetic surgery? With our skilled surgeons, we can give back the confidence you lost. We have had many years in developing a variety of techniques and can remove fur, scales, feathers, and provide a measure of human appearance. Surgery is often quick and simple."
What followed were a series of 'before and after' affects, of people who were changed and returned to a human form.
Lilly looked intrigued. Was this a cure?
Stacy shook her head. "Don't even think about it sis," he said.
"But they are curin' people," She said confused.
"No... they are making things worse," she said with a sigh. "First of all, they can't help everyone. you missed the disclaimer."
"What's a dis- dis-c'claimer?" she asked struggling with the word.
Stacy chuckled and patted her little sister on the head. "It's something they have to say at the end of the commercial. Basicly, those pictures are not real."
"So.. it's a lie?" She asked.
"Yes sis, they are lying." he said with a slight rumble of a growl.
Lilly looked angrily at that. "B-But why did they say it if their lyin'?"
"To make people pay money. But I'm telling you now, surgery isn't the answer. It might make em look worse. I'm betting they are only going to try very minor cosmetic effects- er small changes," he said noting her sisters blank look. "Like eye color..." He doubted they had much business. Though who knows?
"Oh..." Lilly thought glancing down at her own body.
"Besides, I think your fur is lovely. Why would you want to get rid of it?" She smiled rubbing her fur with his muzzle. He then tickled her, with his short arms.
Lilly giggled. "B-But it's s-so- so- fuzzy!" she said in between gasps.
"It also suits you. Now... are you feeling better?" She asked.
Lilly managed a little smile. her brother really did cheer her up. "Yeah... I'm better," she said shyly. "And sis- er- brother-" She said a little worried. "It's- It's not really what I said before. Jenny isn't really like that. I- I was- lyin'. I'm sorry," she sniffled a bit.
She didn't know why she had the compulsion to lie. She was just afraid she might get into trouble? But why lie? these childish impulses were so strong she couldn't help herself sometimes. It was a lie that could have got Jenny and Artemis into trouble with her big brother!
The dinosaur boy laid back with his muscular form, allowing Lilly to sit on his shoulder. "I had a feeling sis..." he said. "I'm glad you told the truth. But... are you going to tell me what it really is about?" he asked.
"I can't... it's a secret," She admitted.
"I wish you could tell me. But... I know girls always have secrets, I wont pry" he winked.
Lilly blushed under her fur. She was in on the secret now... right? Even if she couldn't help, she did know. She found it out herself...
She now felt horrible for the things she had said. She wished there was some way she could make it up to them. If... they would still let her. They were interrupted by the glow of blue lights from the front window as a car parked near by.
"Jenny's mother is here," said Stacy.
Lilly blinked... this was very lucky! She could get a message to Jenny through her. She could say she was sorry! She anxiously opened the front door, a little skip in her step.
Finally, things were looking hopeful.
