"...and, well, that's why I don't like being seen as a servant of God..." - Sighed Lucas as the two walked and talked for a while now. The conversation had drifted from the animes Cass and Lucas liked to sharing some personal stories.
"I understand you." - Said Cass - "I really do. But don't you think it's their fault? I mean, they go hear those nutcases out of their own volition. Your change wasn't decided by you, either, it was quite more random than mine..."
"I know. It's just... They were asking me for help..." - Said Lucas.
"To me it seems people want an outlet. And an easy way." - Said Cass - "They could go into the sun. Instead they choose to look for angels. I trust you, Lucas, but I'd not task you with watching my every step and healing my every wound. People need to be self-sufficient sometimes. It isn't fair of them to dump this on you. It's not fair of you to accept it."
Lucas sighed. "I know. It's just... It still felt like crap."
Cass kissed Lucas. "That's because you care. Don't worry, though. I'll keep it a secret. Anyways. Let's turn left here. There's a promontory over the lake nearby..."
"Okay."
The two made the left and walked further, seeing a sign reading "Fae Hill Promontory", and walked a bit up towards said promontory.
Cass smiled. "Fae Hill got that name because of old stories about faeries being here, back in the 1910s."
Lucas smirked. "To think that now there may be actual faeries here..."
Cass nodded. "Given what happened to the sun, I'm not ready to discount the notion that there WERE faeries here either."
Lucas nodded. "The Sun changing... Things that weren't supposed to be possible. Magic is a science, too. It must have laws of its own..."
Cass looked to Lucas. "You seem to be treating this rather oddly. Is there something you know?"
Lucas shook her head. "Of course not. It's just that whatever happened to the Sun must also have an explanation. Yet said explanation defies the laws of physics. The faerie-changed defy conservation of mass. I defy aerodynamics. You defy causality. It's crude to call anything outside the realms of sciences 'magic' or 'supernatural', but it will have to do for now. But... there must be fields to it. Laws, a science..."
Cass nodded. "Right... And do you know anyone that actually knows magic?"
Lucas smiled, then paused, then sweatdropped, then sighed, all in very anime-esque ways, due to Cass. "Not a clue."
Cass giggled. "You look cute when you're in over your head."
Lucas smiled. "Would you believe I did it on purpose?"
Cass smirked. "No."
Lucas smiled. "Well, okay. Now to change the subject from that attempt at impressing falling flat. Would you like to kiss me while flying above the lake?"
Cass smiled and nodded. "Okay."
Lucas grabbed Cass gently and flew up, holding her tight.
"What were you two thinking???"
"Uhm... I can't believe I'll get to say this, in English no less... It seemed like a good idea at the time?" - Said Lucas. Cass stifled a giggle, which didn't really help given how expressive anime faces are.
The human (currently anime) female officer didn't seem really amused.
"Okay. Listen. There's no law against what you two were doing, at least not yet. It is still incredibly stupid and dangerous."
Cass nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I'm sorry..."
Lucas piped in. "It was my idea, to be sure. I didn't mean to endanger anyone, but it was still a bad idea."
The officer - A shapely blonde woman named Marylin - nodded. "Okay. Listen up. I know the changed tend to have some powers and advantages, but you guys aren't immortal..."
Cass looked at Marylin. "Okay. Uhm, if you think we have advantages, why don't you go into the sun?"
Marylin shrugged. "Key word, 'tend'. I take care of my mom, she's an elderly woman. I can't afford to risk losing my livelihood if I become a tree or whatever. It's tempting, though. We sometimes discuss going out into the sun the both of us..."
Lucas nodded. "I see what you mean. If you do decide to go into the sun, I wish you a cool change."
Marylin nodded. "Thanks. Now, you two, be safe, okay?"
With that, she left.
Lucas blushed. "Er... Sorry about that."
Cass smirked. "What, an officer scolding us? Very worth it. Let's go, now. I know a nice little deli where we can eat a quick late-night meal and then it's off to my place for a few animes I wanna show you. But don't think I forgot about these." - She held the box with... implements.
Lucas blushed hard, nodded, and followed Cass, smiling. This was turning out to be quite a nice night indeed.
