Lilly and Jenny looked around the park.
It was quite a large area, with a large lake to the north, and various trees to the west. Lilly knew this park well. There was even a small grave yard in a corner of it, though the church that had once been here had long gone. It was a nice place. They could hear the rustling of insects in the grass.
The park had gone through some renovation with a small path running across the main gate and an artificial enclosure with a swing set. Lilly actually liked it here. She had many wonderful memories of playing in this park when younger... that is the age she was now. Memories that had become razor sharp. She remembered people, she had never thought of before. People from so many years ago... like it was just yesterday she swapped sweets with someone.
The squirrel girl was quite scared now though. Being in school without her big brother was hard enough, but out here? Where it was just her and Jenny? She didn't want to seem like she was a weak little... thing, but she was starting to feel rising panic. Was she always this scared?
Jenny however took everything in her stride and appeared quite confident. "We'll find Miss Violet's niece. I'm sure of it!" She smiled.
"Uh... uh huh," Said Lilly nervously looking around.
"What's wrong?" glanced the white haired girl at her friend.
"Um- I dunno... I feel funny. Like I'm bein' watched. An' I don't like it. An' I miss my- little- er- big broth'r" she said almost panicking at that last part.
"You're doin' fine!" Encouraged Jenny. "You're gonna get just as strong as 'im."
"Am not," Sniffled the squirrel girl. "I'm jus'... jus' a girl..." Why did she feel this way? Wasn't her sister before the sunlight also 'just a girl'? But that is how she used to think of her... how it used to be. She was her big brother, and she had to take care of her. That was what she was born for! She was supposed to be a boy... and to someday be 'the man' of the house.. right? Was all that really gone?
Losing that... to be relegated to something between 'pet' and child hurt her more then anything else. The absence of her male organs reminded by the clothes she was wearing... It wasn't 'uncomfortable' exactly... but she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
"I'm a girl too," Jenny reminded. "An' I can't do this withou' you..."
"R-Really?" ASked the squirrel girl surprised.
"Yep. You're gonna smell for her."
The squirrel girl wrinkled her nose "S-Smell?! I dunno how do to that!" It sounded quite disgusting to her to even try it.
"It's easy. You got a special nose now right? Just smell around an' tell me if you find anythin'"
Lilly still didn't look very comfortable of the idea. Still she did want to be useful to Jenny... and if this was something she could do, she would give it a try. She got down on all fours, her twin tails twirling a little poking under her dress. She sniffed around the gate. "I- don't smell anythin' here," She said hoping she was doing it right.
Jenny nodded. "Let's go deeper into the park."
"Y-Yeah..." the squirrel girl said softly.
