The group listened to the song one more time.
Haru still had that surreal expression on her face. Did she really sing that? It didn't seem possible! Yet that was recognisable as her own voice... was this part of her transformation? Or was this just.. an unknown talent she always had? She had never tried to sing before, though she had always been quite good at languages... when she tried to learn a foreign language, she recalled her teacher commenting that she had a talent for getting the accent right- even if not the words.
This all left her very confused... those strange half-words that almost seemed like they were telling you something... but were not? They were instilling a vague undefined feeling, a crescendo ending in whispered words that for some reason, made her blush a little.
"We must get this on an mp3," said Ken. "Can you get that computer working?"
"We just have an old Atari here..." Sighed Zara. The Atari was cheap, and was used for midi synthesis. It was actually still quite capable despite its age.
"I've got a laptop we can use," Smiled Naomi.
It wasn't long before the voice recording was digitised into the system.
"I got a crazy idea," Said Ken. "Why don't we splice it into a video with a picture of us?"
"I've got an account in you tube!" said Naomi. "I never uploaded anything into it... but who's going to take the picture?"
"You've got a camera on that laptop.. just set it a little from us, and we'll just do a pose." Ken said quite excited.
The group slowly got themselves organised, as they were when Haru sang her song, holding their instruments. Naomi then used the computer to freeze frame a good moment. Haru had her mouth slightly open as if she was singing and was at the center, with ken to her left. Naomi was just behined on the drums. Zara took position to Haru's right, swinging her guitar. Her tom-boyish clothes on such a beautiful angel certainly added well to the effect.
"Now that is a perfect picture," Said Zara quite excited. "Put it on your account!"
Naomi did so grinning.
Haru had to admit... it looked good. Having the still picture of them while the song played was cheap but effective... and she had to wonder at all her friends now. Friends... she would never have had, if she had not transformed.
Then realisation dawned on her... she was liking this. Her life was actually... better? But was it her life? Or some stranger's life she was just given? It was her life now to live... should she be ashamed to actually like it? Just like when she looked at herself in the mirror, being kind of ashamed to see a girl naked- even if it was herself.
Did that mean.. she also preferred it now? If she was given the choice now to go back to who she was... would she really take it?
She bit her lip as these questions came. She wasn't one to make a hasty decision.. but right now, with all the friends she had made, she wouldn't give this moment up for anything.
Tiffany hated this.
Her horn was always in the way of her vision, a constant reminder of everything she had lost. She felt weak and pathetic... not to mention, all her 'glowy' parts were starting to show in her clothes. She wasn't sure why they had got brighter, it was almost as if they 'needed' to glow...
But that wasn't possible...
Reluctantly, she thought maybe she should see the nurse. Her body was itching like crazy, and she didn't know the nature of the light, or just what she was. But seeing a nurse felt like she was giving up... it was bad enough she almost fell asleep in class several times.
She opened the door to the nurse's office.
Steve had been given leave to soak up some sunlight...
It felt a bit weird doing this in school, instead of in the privacy of her garden. It wasn't as if she was doing anything other then just 'standing' around. She wondered if anyone else knew what she was doing.
She was also drinking a large cup of water, sipping it slowly. There were a few other plant-types doing the same thing. A kid with strange mossy hair. He was a younger child, probably only about twelve... the fact that he was a male-plant type though was interesting to the new flower girl. Apparently, plants could be of either gender (or both?)
Did that mean he had girl-parts just as she had male stamen parts on her? But it wasn't as if she could ask that! The kid approached her, obviously very curious.
"Hello," said Steven. "Um... nice to meet you."
"Hi!" said the young boy. "I'm Bryan"
"I'm- um.. Steven," She whispered.
Byran looked wide eyed. "Wow..."
"Yeah..." She said a little annoyed. She still hadn't forgotten her mother referring to her as a young lady... she really hoped a cure would present itself soon. She didn't want to be stared at by kids or anyone!
Bryan poked at her dress with curiosity.
"Hey!" Said Steven, her flower muscles twitching the dress a bit.
"S-sorry! It's just- er- are you naked?" He asked blushing slightly red.
"Technically... yes," Said Steven. "Don't tell anyone." It wasn't as if she could hide it from another plant type transformee... the two could for some reason, just know these things.
"And you don't have roots?" Asked Bryan. "You're lucky... I might get roots one day," He said.
"I- I don't know what will happen to me," Said steven blanching just a bit. She didn't want to be rooted! She liked moving around... but somehow, glancing down at her ballet-type legs, she knew her body was designed to move... so she probably wouldn't get rooted.
She hoped.
"It's nice that we get a lot of sun today. I missed out yesterday," Mused Bryan.
"Y-Yeah.. so did I," Said Steven uncomfortably.
"I hear they are gonna turn the roof into a classroom for us. Won't that be fun? It'll be just like the swimming pool for the water changed."
"I.. guess that would be nice," Sighed Steven. It would be nicer if they didn't have to make special exceptions for them when they needed sunlight... she wasn't sure what would happened if she stayed indoors. After all, she still ate like a normal human... would it really be that bad to just forgo noon-sunlight? But she certainly didn't want to fall ill...
Then Steven glanced at Bryan's hair, where white flowers were nestled. She could sense... something... "Your flowers are going to blossom this week," She said curiously.
"H-Huh?" Asked Byran. "They are? How do you know?"
"I-I- don't know," said Steven. "It's a sense I have... I just know things about... flowers," she blushed. She didn't want to upset the child.
"Does that mean im gonna make fruit and stuff?" Asked the boy shyly.
"N-No! I mean- I don't know!" Said Steven shivering. These were questions she was asking herself! How could she have this talk to a boy? Yet the kid seemed desperate to know answers too, and she had just let it slip that she knew about his flowers... knowledge she didn't know quite how she knew.
"I didn't want to tell m'friends," said Bryan. "But I'm a bit worried... I don't wanna to grow roots really.. but if I did.. I'll be okay... it's just the fruit'n stuff I don't know about... how does that happen?"
Steven was starting to really get embarrassed. This young child was asking her about the birds and the bees? Why!? She didn't know either! Well- she did know, but she didn't know how it would apply to them. Especially to him, and certainly not to herself. "You're still young kid- you don't have to worry about that for a long time," She said hoping it was the right thing.
Byran brightened up a bit at that. He smiled a bit. "Thanks... you're really nice you know."
Steven rolled her eyes, patting down the strange blouse she had, feeling it. "I.. guess," she said.
The young flower-boy looked a bit embarrassed about what he might say next. He wanted to ask her more.. but dare he? Finally he decided to chance it. "I-If you do fruit... could you.. tell me about it?" He asked shyly. "I'm just wanting to be.. prepared about it.. that's all..."
Steven sighed. "We're different.. okay? I don't know what will happen to you... I really don't. I don't know what will happen to me! All I know is... I drink a lot of water..."
"Me too!" said Bryan. "So we got something in common...."
Steven looked down at the kid. "I'll think about it," She said in the end.
