Kei wasn't sure how long she held on to her mate.
The truth of her existence was hard to deny... she was both the dreamed and the dreamer... her existence being dreamed of by a man, a bandit in the wild west. Yet she was here too, and this was her reality. She was a fairy looking forward to building a nest with her selected mate.
She didn't want it to end... she didn't want Keith to take that away from her. "Farin?" She spoke gently, brushing her bare breasts to his naked torso.
"Yes my love?" His gaze calm and gentle.
"What was I... before I was here?"
Farin tilted his head. The young fairy seemed to have some trouble with this concept of what was. Kei realised fairies tended to exist almost entirely in the present. It might be why her own instincts were so strong... Still this was enough to make Farin consider where his love came from. "You must have been lost," he said simply. "But you are here now." He smiled kissing her cheek.
Lost... what happens when a fairy is lost? Is that why she was just instinct before?... but now she was like everyone else. Kei wished she could understand this, but it was beyond her.
The problem became when she tried to think, of where Keith began and Kei ended. The two were radically different. Yet they were also essentially the same one being at the same time. She didn't want anything to do with him, in as much as he didn't want anything to do with her. But that was not how it was. Kei really didn't want to hurt Keith. She wasn't completely sure how Keith felt... but she knew she would know it in time.
... what would she do then?
Keith woke up with a start, at the crack of dawn. Smoke was all around him... had he been dragged to a hut? There was a fire in the middle, with some kind of strange smoke...
Keith wanted to be angry... but he wasn't. He was feeling sad. So much of that other life came through this time to his mind. Almost like a plea not to hurt her- himself. She.. he... this was confusing! Keith always looked out for himself first... He didn't want that creature upset because it was him as well. He just wanted to stop experiencing her life! Let her have it... all they did was rut like- urgh. And why did he have to be the female in that anyway!
"Awake?" Asked the native American, smoking a pipe.
"... yeah..." Keith said nonchalantly. The energy from him was gone. He felt defeated. But just maybe a way out still existed..
The elderly native stared into his eyes, even as the smoke came around them. "You're name?"
"Keith..." He said carefully. Maybe now he could get out of here.
"I Dyami... you have seen a spirit. In the forest... true?"
Keith was taken aback. Did this man know what he saw? He better be careful not to admit to anything. He had no idea how these natives would react to his strange visions.
"Look- just.. for the sake of argument. If I had seen... something..." He paused glancing around. An old habit in a new area... "It doesn't matter. I'm going..."
"Forest very old... many secrets..." Dyami inhaled smoke from his pipe and blew it across the confused man. "It existed before the white man came... before we came... before... this age... and they say.. one spirit.. left behind."
Keith tensed a bit. "Look- I don't care about these secrets-"
"Secrets you have... a journey you will take... a spirit you have seen... you will never be the same again... even now, your shell cracks.. as an egg."
Keith growled slightly. This man claimed to have some kind of mumbo jumbo... next he'll be offering snake oil. He rubbed his hands feeling a slight chill... was it his imagination or were his nails a little... longer? Bah... paranoia was getting to him. Clearly he just had not trimmed them.
"I just want to get a horse..." Keith said bitterly.
"I give you... my horse," Said Dyami.
Keith raised an eyebrow. "Really?" This was surprising.
"Yes... because... you will come back..." The native said very confidentially.
The words sent a chill down her- his back. The hell he would! He was going to ride that horse until it was dead as far away from here.
The elven teacher, Miss Violet took off her dress as soon as she was back home. she looked in the mirror and smoothed her hair over her very long ears. Looking at the wardrobe she half wondered what to do with her old suits. She had always been a very formal person as a male. She liked to keep a respectful appearance. Wearing the same formal attire on the female side felt better then trying to 'dress' up for work.
Still the fact that it was a dress still made her feel weird. Even if it was just a formality to her and tradition. A tradition to the academy she always wanted to adhere to. A teacher must always be an example to her students...
She was very proud of Lilly. She really hoped that girl would do well with them. She noticed in school how she made friends. Not just with Jenny, although that was certainly her focus, but she seemed to be getting on fairly well with everyone. It was hard to imagine how she got into fights before...
Being a teacher, she always felt a little saddened that in her profession, males always seemed to have a more difficult time. While it was perhaps a gross oversimplification, teaching young children was predominately a female role. She had taught in schools for over ten years, and knew that there was always a note of concern whenever some parents realised their precious children were being taught by a male... it saddened her greatly, as all she wanted was to be a teacher. Still, the children always liked her...
...and now she actually was a female...
This completely flipped things over for her. Still, sticking to formal attire and attitude was a decent anchor, even in such a troubling situation. She was happy being male.. indeed, being an example of a male in the teaching profession. Perhaps the most surprising thing though, was how much harder it was being a female teacher. It was certainly not easier to maintain the discipline of the class like this. She wasn't quite sure why it was more difficult. She kept to her same style believing that would work out... but no. It didn't.
Yet... somehow, she was managing. If only just. She adapted her style a little, and the children seemed more responsive... but it would take time to work things out from this side of things.
The phone rang at that time. Her brother was calling her, as always. "Hi bro... yes, its me" She sighed. Was her new voice really that difficult? "No... I've not seen Harriet." Harriet was her niece. She had gone missing on the first day of the sun change. Naturally, her brother was very worried on the loss of her daughter. The whole family was. "So she's not on cyber space?" When they heard of that part of the world, they hoped she would be there...
They had contacted the police, but with so many people missing it was difficult. Still a child was a priority... "I don't know brother. I can put up some posters around the school, but I don't want to frighten the children... well... okay... I'll put a few notices up on. I still think it's a long shot though."
Miss Violet sighed and put the phone down.
