Ritually killing and sacrificing the demon to Satan, Archdevil of Wrath, would boost his chances by 10%. 35% would certainly be a better chance than 25%. There was an obvious consequence from this. People of the village that liked the demon would hate Thalox. Thalox was a veteran that had magic though. He could handle himself. If it came down to it, he could kill anyone that wanted to take revenge. We watched him go. I shrugged and continued with my day. I had nothing to do with either of them. I certainly did not need to make Tholax an enemy. We found Phirlax and Dulgron were reveling with the elder. They were all to happy to show off their budding powers. As the reveling was in all of our honor, there was no reason to decline. We sat down to watch their demonstration. Dulgron' s palms could shoot small wooden spikes. That was cool. Phirlax could shoot fire from his feet. I wondered what we could do with our power. I could check to see what I could do. Mine was a passive buff to my body. It was tough like armor. I could grow my power as time went on, but it kind of seemed very bland.

I was comparing a passive buff with the NPCs offensive moves. That was what being a NPC was about: having a set standard that never deviated from the norm unless it was directly changed by a Player's intervention. Nothing they could do would be too special when I surpassed them in level. I guessed that it was not going to be easy to get there though. After the reveling was over we were going to go back to our dwelling. Just as we were leaving, a smiling Thalox greeted us. His hands glowed red before fire shot into the sky and exploded. "I finally did it." he said. The elder smiled and said "I always knew you could, grandson. I'll revel with you a bit more with your parents. I have taken too much of their time as it is." I was not aware that they were related. We all looked similar. He looked from his grandfather to us. "They had their toasts in their honor. I want that too." he said. The elder chuckled and nodded as he ruffled Thalox's hair. I was surprised when he purred a bit. A blush then rose to his cheeks. "I-I'll see you at my house. Don't take too long old man!" he snapped before he ran off.

Seeing that, I laughed. "Is there something wrong with me showing affection to my grandson." the elder asked. He was looking at me, expecting an answer. There was a dark glimmer in his eyes. I was not getting caught by a trick like that. There was also no way that I was going to piss off the elder demon when he obviously was the head of what went on. Doing that would be bad for my health. I shook my head. "It was great to see that side of him. I just wish he was that honest all the time." I said. He just stared at me and then smiled. "Nice answer, boy." was all he said before walking off after his grandson. I was pretty much in a good position. As a veteran with magic, the opportunities to advance myself would only grow larger and larger. I looked at the others and asked "If I were to go to the castle and see if there was work in that town, would you guys come with me?" They all said they would. It was a great start. A 4 person party would be great to start with. I let them pack there things and we were ready in a few days. Thalox demanded to tag along and I was not going to say no to him.
