For the first battle, we took a massive victory against the enemy. Something I noticed is that there were different phenotypes within the demon country. The people under our lord had red eyes and a spectrum of light skin. Their skin was pale with orange eyes. During the battle we got a lot of kills before we had to back off when our health got too low. We moved up to tier 3 together. Thalox and Helelin became crossbowmen. I became an infantryman in the army and Phirlax became a spearman. I was given a lacquered leather tunic to put on top of my undershirt. I was given a round iron helmet. Phirlax was given the same thing. His helmet was pointier than mine. He also had dark leather gloves on his hands. The crossbowmen had an iron brimmed helmet and fancier tunics than we had. We had many victories, but the jump to tier 4 units was a long slog. 5 enemies were needed for tier 2. An additional 8 were needed for tier 3. We needed 13 confirmed enemy kills to move up. That was pretty hard as we were now expected to join the fray against the stronger tiered units on the opposing side.

We were able to get lots of exp. during the battles. I was level 9 while Phirlax and Helelin were level 10. They were able to decide what element they should take. "I have been thinking about this for a bit now. For my element, I am going to take fire!" Phirlax said as we sat by the fire the camp. We both turned to look at him. "That's the best element and any demon worth his manhood would take it." he said confidently. Helelin and I looked at him. "I was going to take Metal. It sounded cool." I said. It made his nose crinkle at me. He then smirked as he lunged at me. We fell over with him straddling me and holding my shoulders down. "Fine. I wouldn't mind being on top of you going forward, Uraris." he said with a flirtatious purr. Helelin got behind him and grabbed his hips. She pressed her groin against his ass and said "As long as I am on top. I'm taking the element of Earth." Phirlax looked over his shoulder at her and growled. "I'm the one on top." he said angrily. I just chuckled and said "That's fine. She can climb on me anytime she wants. I do my best work from below." I then bucked my hips up.

I saw Phirlax recoil and get off of me. He looked personally insulted. "No way am I going to submit to you, Uraris! I barely sense any manhood from you. You are way too passive to be any good in the bedchamber." he said. The insult did not phase me at all. I just sat back down in front of the fire. "See! That's what I'm talking about!" he snapped in frustration. "Oh, it's fine Phirlax. Better for us anyway. He won't fuss when we take the most of our rewards and he has taken bolts to the chest for us." she said in my defense. I was not sure that I would simply let them rip me off when we got the rewards, but having loyal allies was a good thing to have. He looked at me and sighed out loud. "I know that. I'm a healthy male-even if he's not. I want to flex my strength every now and again." he said. I just shrugged. Thalox must have been listening as he took that moment to come and challenge him to the big fight Phirlax craved. We formed a circle as they fought with their fists. It was close, but Thalox was able to win with a uppercut to the jaw. "You have some nerve, talking about flexing." he mocked.

Going over to our unconscious friend, Helelin and I made sure he was protected until he woke up. When he did, he pushed us away and looked embarrassed. That was to be expected. "Looks like you weren't as healthy as you thought you were." I teased. He snarled and turned to me with a wrathful expression. "I do not want to hear that from you, Uraris. I can still beat you in a fight." I was not too sure about that. He was only a level higher than me. It was not like either of us had magic though. We still needed to do a ritual in our home village for that. Before we could go back, we would have to be dismissed by our lord. That would probably only happen when we won. I was confident that we were going to win the war. We had been stomping them out every single time we engaged. We were going to try to seize the enemy lord's castle this time. Hopefully, I could both level up and reach the next unit tier in the army before then. That would be great to have us all be on the same footing. All 3 of us were being paid in gold, and that money would help ensure that the magical rituals went well for us.
