Cecilia led the two girls out of town towards a lone figure in a trench coat and a masked face and introduced them.
"This is agent Hawkins," he tipped his fingers on his fedora "while we're out there you better listen to what he says. He's better with this whole responsibility stuff then me anyways. Those two here are Jen and Mike. They both possess abilities with should come in handy out there. Also, where's the human who wanted to explore everything to begin with?"
"I convinced him that you would probably find transformies willing to accompany us who would be better suited then him and send him back in the town."
The way he pronounced his words Cecilia immediately knew that there was more to it Hawkins didn't want to tell in front of Jen and Mike.
"If you say so, you're the one in charge. And since you're the one in charge Jen here should tell you what she told me about the people in town."
"Huh?" Jen didn't immediately knew what the gynoid was talking about sine agent Hawkins distracted her since she couldn't feel anything from him. Given, it was normal she got no signals from machine and element-type transformies but this guy didn't seem to belong to either of those two groups. He was still too close to human and yet Jen could feel absolutely nothing.
"The thing about anger and fear." Cecilia started to get annoyed by the demones already.
Jen turned towards agent Hawkins and the feeling of nothingness became even stronger. But she could now feel at least that he was somehow blocking all signals from him even if Jen couldn't tell how. Still, it felt more reassuring then then being unable to feel him.
"Heh, got this ability not that long and it's already this important to me." The girl thought for herself.
"Uhm, I don't think it's really this important. Some people in town I came by hat a lot of anger built up inside and it may be possible they might get aggressive. But really, I can't say for certain that this will happen, after all its normal for people to fear the unknown and that fear turns in anger. This doesn't mean that they have to start attacking people."
"Still," Hawkins answered "it is better to know what could happen and nothing happens in the end than knowing nothing and getting an unpleasant surprise. But your right, for now we should focus on exploring the area and worry about this one later. Well then, I would say we start before there is too much time of the night lost."
"Don't you want to know what we are capable of first?" Mike suddenly asked.
"Oh, I trust my partner choose valuable people for this job." Was all the shadowy figure responded before he turned his back towards the girls and started marching towards the barrens, talking with the gynoid but not loud enough for Jen and Mike, who trotted after the two, to hear.
No matter how far the group went, it was all barren land and crystal trees all over the place. Soon Mike got bored from the never shifting landscape and since both agents were still talking among themselves she turned her attention towards Jen.
"So, you eat vitality huh? How's that taste?"
"Uhm, it's actually more drinking than eating. But to answer your question most of the time it tastes fruity, like berry's and stuff. The good meat stuff is only in when someone's really angry."
"So you taste their mood?"
"Pretty much, yeah. And you, do you only eat meat now, I mean your half a raptor or something similar."
"Well, I certainly prefer it. But I did so even before the transformation. But I still can eat the rest of the stuff."
Suddenly Hawkins and the girls stopped when they felt some sort of "Wave" hitting them briefly.
"What's up? Why did everyone stop?" Cecilia asked.
"Didn't you feel this?" Mike replied.
"No, there is nothing on my sensors."
Agent Hawkins shrugged "Well whatever it was, I don't think we have to worry about it, let's search a bit more before we turn back. I'd say we should still have at least an hour left before we must return to make it before dawn." With this he kept walking.
"Shouldn't he be a bit more worried?" Jen asked Mike but she didn't really mind.
"Well he gives me the feeling that he knows what he does. So I guess we should trust him for now."
"Hmm if you say so. I on my part don't feel anything with this guy."
"How come? Didn't you say that you can even feel what people feel?"
"Well it's not really as strong as most people assume when they hear me talk about. But this guy keeps me out somehow."
"So, how strong is it if not as strong as most people assume?"
"Uhm, I have to stand pretty close to someone for it to work, almost in arm-range. Also I can only feel what's at the surface. Is there anger I can feel that but not if it's because of fear or desperation for example. And I tell you, I actually hat it, it's so annoying to get those info's."
"That bad?"
"Jup, that bad. And having ADHD doesn't help it ether."
"Huh? ADHD? Never heard before. What's that? Mike wanted to know.
"To put it simple, I have trouble concentrating. I can't "
Jen broke off in the middle of her sentence and ceased walking. "Everyone, stop." The demon girl almost shouted and, when everyone turned towards her, she pointed towards the ground.
"There's something down there. Pretty weak but definitely alive."
"Can you feel more?" Cecilia wanted to know but Jen just shook her head.
"Nah, just that it's moving either in or under the earth. Other than that, I can say that its weak compared to Mike here but I don't know if it's because it's weak, far away or simply alien and normal for them. Judging from this world I would at least say alien."
"So, what now?" Mike asked into the round.
"Let's head back." Hawkins said. "For now we found enough. We know now that there is at least some form of live on this world, we should tell the people and prepare for all eventualities."
