Anneza continued her plea... if there was a God, then He had better show himself! She had just apologised... didn't that mean she was forgiven? Was that how it worked?
Maybe not for her. She just wasn't a religious person. It was just a lot of showmanship and mysticism... people pretending to have answers when there is no answer. Life was quite simple. Just make your money, and hope you spend it before you die. At least, that's what she thought before.
Anneza for some reason, smiled. The smile became broader, and she laughed. Her turbulent emotions just exploded in a sea of confusion. The laughter turned to tears, as she wailed her thoughts, finding herself back in the darkest night.
The space girl did not sleep well... every time she woke, she saw that she was still female.. still a girl... an alien one. It was easier with her new companions at least, but would they really be friends with her if they had known exactly what kind of person she was?
Was... or is? Is she now that same person? She knew she would never have come here... if things were as they were, she would be in her office. Doing her job... a job she realised, despite what people said about her, she was quite good at.
She would never be happy in a menial job. If it came down to it though... what other job could she do? She was essentially a foreigner in her own country. Holding onto anything of her previous life might kill her. It would never be the same. Not even a little...
The devil priestess watched the strange woman with some curiosity. She was in pain, that was obvious. She decided to approach her. "Are.. you all right?" She enquired.
Aneeza looked somewhat apologetic as she wiped her eyes. The tone suggested the woman was concerned about her. She made a so-so gesture hoping the message would get across.
"What's wrong?" Asked Robert.
The spacegirl looked blankly at the question. Well, no matter. She should probably get going. Maybe floating around the town, she would find some idea of a job she could do. One that didn't involve talking. She turned to leave, when she felt the devil woman's hand on her shoulder.
Anezza turned.
Robert wasn't sure what was wrong with the girl... but... she wished she could help her. When was her next sermon? Oh.. wait... she couldn't do that any more. Still.. the girl seemed to need 'something'. "I... can't guess what you're going through," She said softly. Still, it felt good to try and help someone, despite her new form of a devil. She noted the blank look on the woman's face. Perhaps she did not understand English at all?
ahksa... " Anneza replied.
The devil priestess sighed. She slowly reached around her neck, and took off the holy symbol she carried. She was rather fond of it. A priest had given it to her, when she first join the clergy. It was a simple one... but very old. "Take this..." She said softly.
The space girl looked blankly.
Robert gestured to her neck, and placed it around her. "Who knows... it might help you," She said softly with a little smile. False hope maybe... after all, what did it do for her? It felt so heavy in her hand.. so heavy.
Anneza stared blankly at the symbol, and nodded her thanks. Even if she didn't really believe in any of this, she could tell the priestess was trying to help her. She gave a little, genuine smile to her.
Robert smiled a little more back. "If... you come back on Sunday, We'll have a congregation.. there will be... an appropriate priest here," She said choking a bit on her last words. Was it really not possible to be a priest any more? Unless they started changing the rules... no. She couldn't.
Aneeza tilted her head. She didn't understand what she was saying, but she had become quite good at picking out tones. Her throat tightened there. She could tell the priest was... sad about something. She guessed everyone had something to be sad about these days. Being a devil in her line of work was probably very difficult.
Robert nodded. "Well... good day child... may the Lord bless you."
Mark walked to the bus, eager to at least go to her favourite club. She would have normally done this on Saturday but just couldn't work out the nerve to go out.
On her walk she saw a a wolf-boy, and crossed the street to avoid him. Still she knew she couldn't avoid people forever. As she walked, she saw people look in awe at her. It made her very uncomfortable now. She at first saw it as a possible benefit of her transformation. Free gifts were nice... however the looks were not always in awe though. People reacted to her in many ways. Sometimes even fear. But she was just an ordinary girl... that happened to resemble an angel.
She adjusted her baseball cap a bit, much as she used to.
This transformation she had was so... off putting. She might have been okay in dealing with it, if not for the others she was linked to. She recalled how she wanted to be a leader among them. In some misplaced drunken spree, she knew she felt terrible... and yes, indeed responsible for what happened.
The bus finally arrived, and the angel girl got on.
Hiro watched the television. The cyborg didn't have the benefit of being able to pick up radio signals, he realised. Well- not exactly. He 'could' pick them up, and he could almost hear the signal, but turning it into a picture seemed beyond the ability of the organic nature of his brain. He suspected his subconscious picked up when something important was on though, and he knew something very important had just happened.
Internet traffic had gone high... bands on the military frequencies had sky rocketed. What could have happened?
The three tailed fox-lady was on the news. Hiro allowed himself a little smile. He thought the sight was surreal. She stood there with a serious face.
"We are getting reports... that the town of Hedgeton, a small town with a population of five hundred, has... disappeared."
Hiro looked with some shock, stunned.
"The area has been cordoned off. Terrorism has been ruled out by special forces. All people in the area, are missing. Cameras have been refused pending the investigation. A number has been set up for eye witnesses. If you have any information please call..."
The cyborg got quite scared now. How could a town just... disappear? It was far away from them, from what he gathered in the news... he didn't know anyone from there... but still... five hundred people missing? He wasn't sure why but he wanted to make sure his sister was safe. What about their parents? They were on a flight...
Hitomi came in, and he quickly hugged her.
"What's wrong brother?" the fairy girl asked.
"I don't know... something very strange," he said still watching the news.
