Jenny had gone back to her room to rest. The girl felt... she had disappointed her mentor, even though she tried her very best. She didn't know why her magic wasn't working any more... she could change into her magic girl mode, but summoning her weapon seemed to take a few attempts. Then there was the loss of her jumping abilities.
All she could do was go to her room and wait as Tetra tried to rethink the training.
"Sorry Tetra," She sighed looking back at herself in the mirror. She looked at that reflection... why did looking at herself feel weird to her?
Tetra and Muriel were back in the lounge. Tetra stood on the table as she talked it over with the police officer, their voices low to prevent Jenny from hearing. Just in case. Muriel sat back on the sofa, her legs crossed. A cup of of tea was also on the table, and she occasionally took a sip of it.
"Ten feet is still a lot," Said Muriel. Any child doing that just couldn't be normal...
The catgirl shook her head. "It's not jumping. Not really. She's using the magic force of her number, and is it that which propels her." Tetra tried to explain. "Magic bends the rules... that's why its magic. The more you have the more you can bend."
Muriel shook her head. "... our world doesn't know magic. It never existed before now." She wasn't sure she even believed in magic. There had to be another explanation for these strange abilities. Still if there was a scientific or technological equivalent, it was probably too advanced to understand.
"Magic is... tricky." Tetra explained. "A lot of it is to do with the mind. Some of it is to do with the environment... Earth's magnetic field is probably shielding the earth from most of the magical flow from the sun. But Earth's mass absorbs it like a green house effect. The effect should rise over a few years."
Muriel gasped. "That's... a scary thought."
"Ah, most of you probably wont even notice. But for magic girls like Jenny, they should be getting stronger... not weaker. Even if I didn't train her." The cat girl started licking her paws, as this was starting to get really technical. She hoped she wouldn't have to go into more magic theory. She wasn't even sure herself where her own knowledge came from... but she knew it all the same. To her it was a little jarring that nobody questioned who she was... well... Jenny did.
... not that she could say.
"Then perhaps the problem lies in her mind?" Asked Muriel thoughtfully..
"Probably. She has suffered a... confidence issue." The cat girl sighed. That was her own fault, putting her into a mission she was just not ready for.
"What would happen if she loses her confidence?" Asked the police officer.
"Not too sure. I suppose she could just lose her powers... or they would manifest in uncontrolled ways. Dangerous ways. Magic by its nature bends the rules of a world. Go too far and it breaks. If you break reality, you risk a breech... just like what happened when I met her. She could get sucked in to another world, or bring things here from a far off chaos world. It wouldn't be pretty."
"I never really understood why that even happened," Said Muriel. "Could you explain?"
The cat girl walked to the edge of the table and sat down. "Well... as I understand you had one person connected to the... I guess you would call it the chroma world. Atoms don't exist, just colour. Humans have been shaping it for hundreds of thousands of years, giving it names, and concepts.... I 'think' it connects a lot- if not every world to it. When you had two people clashing with the same aura, the vortex was created. It's.. difficult to explain. Basicly they pushed reality too hard."
"Then... could it happen again? If they were in close proximity?" They were husband and wife... how cruel it would be to separate them.
The cat girl shook her head. "It's safe now. I think." More technical details flooded into the catgirls mind, but she just couldn't explain it.
"Hm.. well back to Jenny, perhaps... we need to instil some confidence in her again?"
Tetra thought about it and nodded. "Yeah. Though, I'm not sure how... what kind of girl was she like before her transformation?"
Muriel bit her lip. "I don't know. I guess the same." Jenny was too precious, too... innocent to really have been anything other then who she is to the insect-like woman. "Only her parents would know." she said reminding herself... that the girl was not hers. She was just taking care of her... even if she was terribly attached to the child- as much as Jenny was to her.
The catgirl nodded taking that on-board. "She.. doesn't strike me as being terribly confident then to start with. I guess all this has been a bit much."
Muriel gave it a little thought... maybe a day out would help? But where could she take her to make her feel better?
"What's your name?" Asked Jon politely.
The furry grey cat girl seemed reluctant to say biting her lip. Still... it was nice to get 'something' off her chest (even if it wasn't the thing she really wanted off)
"I'm... Max," she said quietly.
"I'm Jon... it's nice to meet you,"
Max looked at the mirror again, then down at herself... and glanced back to Jon. "I walked here... not even realising I..." She trailed away not even saying it. "Clothes don't seem to be... instinctive any more." She said flicking her tail. Though in truth her fur did cover everything... shouldn't she be worried?
"Um...well... I don't mind. I don't think anyone else really minds either..." still it was hard for Jon not to glance at the extra breasts she had. It was a really strange sight.
Max nodded. "Nobody..really said anything. I Just don't know... um..."
"You want to join us? We're going to the book store..." She felt a bit guilty and wanted to help her out. Maybe being with some people would help.
"I... I guess." the catgirl nodded.
