Anderson floated around... her mind starting to go blank. She was a little surprised to see a wolf-girl outside the bars... that really young one, in a police uniform. Looking at her now, she couldn't believe someone so young was also a police officer...
The wolf-girl said a few things to her. It was hard to tell what it was without any context though. Maybe she was just trying to make small talk?
She shrugged unable to comment, as she floated in small circles around her cell, like a fish in a bowl.
Jenny looked around the town.
It was strange to see all the transformed people, and she smiled a bit seeing young ones with their parents. The young girl's heart held a lingering sadness, as she realised... she was on her own in this world. Nobody knew her.. the name she had, was one given when nobody else had a name. Jane Doe... Jenny. Tetra spoke as if being a magic-girl was a badge of honour, one of the greatest things in the world... something every girl wanted to be.
... if it was so great, why didn't it make her feel happy? Muriel, as wonderful as she is, was not her mother. Her own mother... was just a shadow in her mind. Did she have anyone that loved her? Really loved and knew her? Who was she? What kind of things did she like? What did she want to be when she grew up? Did anyone care what she did or thought? Why did she end up in the streets like that? Cast aside like a rag doll...
Why...
"Earth to Jenny!" Tetra said elbowing her. The little cat girl was still inside her pocket.
"U-um. yeah."
"Focus girl. Our monster is inside there."
The magic girl looked... it seemed to be a mall? "But.. there's loads of people there. Won't they see a mon'ter?"
"Nope. It's kinda hard to explain, but when they come here they don't always fully come here. Their sort of like ghosts."
"G-ghosts?" Jenny swallowed.
"Well yes and no. See the ones that came out of that portal, you could only see them 'cause their portal was still open. It was spilling part of that world into this world. Without that connection, their just ghosts."
"So.. they can't hur' us?" Asked Jenny.
"Physically... no. Not usually." Said the cat girl. "Most these smaller ones, just give ordinary people a headache, or make them lose energy."
"B-But.. wha' do they want?" Jenny looked to the mall, those happy families... there were really things there that they couldn't see? Things hurting them?
"The monsters eat things of course."
Jenny gasped. "E-Eat?"
"Eat energy. They are after magical energy most of all. There's something here that they consider really tasty... I don't know what it is. It's the only explanation I can think of for there to be this many monsters. I just hope they don't eat too much magic."
"W-what happens if they do?"
"The sun provides a bit of magic in everything... mostly on humans. But if they found a really big source of magic, well... its not pretty."
"H-How do you know all this stuff Tetra? Who are you? R-eally?"
The little cat girl gave a modest look. "Kid... I don't know..." she said, with a hint of sadness. "Now, to fight these monsters, your gonna have to shift yourself into their existence as well. Use your weapon, it will act like a tuning fork."
Jenny held out the strange four pronged weapon, as it started to vibrate. The vibration made the magic girl 'shimmer' with a strange light around her.
"Okay good! Now.. try to be quiet. Even though the others can't see you, they can probably still hear you."
Jenny nodded, moving quickly to the mall. Each step she felt exhilaration, as the wind whipped past her face...
Silently, Magic Girl Four looked around the mall. The strange sun made the outside a dazing range of colours. Inside it was a lot more muted. She was surprised to see a few ordinary humans as well... humans that looked just like her, were it not the fact she was a magic girl and had white hair.
It was quite eerie to have someone dressed in such a strange way, holding a weapon to not get any reaction.
"So.. I'm invis'ble now?" she asked Tetra.
"No, not really. Just ignored. You're in the background, like the monsters."
Ignored... It made her feel... even more lonely? She saw a few kids eating, drinking milkshakes... there seemed to be some kind of birthday party going on in another area. The birthday girl looked to be a teenage skunk. All in all, it looked like a happy place to be... why couldn't she have that? Was she a bad person? Maybe... maybe... that's why she was abandoned.
Suddenly she saw it... a dark shadow... some kind of dog? It was sniffing the ground looking eagerly, following a strange slug girl. It was licking the air around the transformed people, siphoning off pieces of energy. But for some reason the creature was really interested in the slug-girl most of all.
"That's our monster Jenny!"
"W-what do I do?"
"Use your weapon on it, you should be able to push it back quietly to its own dimension without anyone else noticing." Tetra felt the monster was quite weak... still it was syphoning off a 'lot' of residual magical energy from somewhere. Perhaps it had gorged itself on the changed populous.
Jenny raised her weapon, pointing it at the dog. She concentrated, as she was taught. Her weapon responded to her thoughts, as a beam of white light shone in a wide arc...
... and missed.
The shadow dog growled, realising its been attacked, and ran towards Jenny. It has suddenly found a much closer, more appetising magical source.
"Er... run." Said Tetra.
Jon glanced behind herself. "Did- you hear something?" She asked Karyn.
"No.." the cecaelia-girl said looking around.
The slug girl shrugged. That was... a weird feeling. It was almost like she was being watched. On the plus side, her headache felt a lot better suddenly. she was a bit worried it was a bit of a relapse from her period. Things seemed to be settling down now though. "So, what fun stuff do you want to do?" Jon smiled.
"Well lets get something to eat first. I haven't had a day out in ages. I also want to check out some more shops," she smiled.
Jon nodded as they looked around the mall.
Steve quietly watched the television... she was trying hard not to fall into a pattern of feeling sorry for herself. She was a fighter! She could...fight. That was the mindset she had, when she first changed... but now?
Maybe it was time to raise the white flag. Surrender... just surrender.
She was a flower girl... a freak.
Her mother kept on insisting to make her go outside, but Steve had enough. She had already endured a shopping trip, got new clothes, and had reached the absolute limit when a bee was in her room! She had to cancel all her plans to see her friends, and even if she didn't want to cut them out... what choice did she have? She couldn't let them see her like this... ever.
That was it. She couldn't take it any more.
"No! Mom.. I'm not going anywhere!" She hated to confront her mother like this.. but she had to now. Didn't her mother understand? She had lost her friends, her school... and all her mom could say was how pretty she was and how her form was 'nice?'. Didn't she even care?!
"Young Lady this isn't very healthy-"
"I'm NOT a lady! Stop calling me that!" she said in a fit of anger crying suddenly she turned off the television. She got up feeling her flowery petals tickle her legs, as if reminding her of the constant wearing of them.
"Leave me alone!" She shut herself into her room, to the bewilderment of her mother.
