So... this was her.

Alex had a lot of time to contemplate this new situation. Was it worth her curiosity? She didn't know. She had a feeling being exposed to the sun was an eventuality. If the sun was always going to be this way, there was no way to avoid it forever in her opinion. At least, she was exposed under her own terms. She went out fighting...

She was surprised at one thing though. The prospect of being female didn't bother her quite as much as having draconic features. Her sister was a girl, her mother was, and they managed fine with it. But how many dragons were there in this new world? Not that she was one of those huge fantastic dragons one might fantasise about. She was more some kind of 'half' dragon? She glanced at the human soft skin, pressing her sharp clawed scaled hands on it. The two strange parts meeting was probably the strangest sensation she felt since she woke up. Despite the softness it exuded, she didn't feel weakness..

actually... she felt quite strong.

The nurse was doing a few tests on her and her sister. Nothing major, just a few basic reflex test, sight tests.. it seemed pointless, but Alex supposed it was better then nothing.

"Well girls, you are both healthy." She smiled softly. "How do you feel?"

"Um... okay... I guess..." said Alex. She was feeling very guilty glancing at her twin sister... this was all her own fault. She didn't want to involve Sally in this at all. She should have just... well... what could she have done? A possible bomb threat to the school was just not something she could have predicted. Still there had to be something that could have gone another way.

"I'm okay too," sally nodded a bit more firmly then Alex. She was pulling her own tail around herself, feeling its scales. Alex didn't even want to go there just yet. Feeling the appendage touch the cold floor was weird enough. The way it extended around the base, would make some articles of clothings very difficult.

Alex realised they were both the same height... that meant she had become younger too. Four years younger... well, that wasn't too bad. It could have been a lot worse. She was a girl somewhere in transition to adulthood... exactly like her sibling.

"I have some clothes for you," The nurse began going through a box. They had quite a large stock of things just in case these situations happened. Dressing them however, proved to be quite a tricky endeavour. Sally graciously accepted a dress that allowed her tail to go under. For now she kept the hospital gown that allowed her wings to be uninhibited. She found however that the tail was powerful enough to 'rip' itself through the dress.

"er.. oops." she said blushing. The nurse started to stitch up the rip to make it look more seemless.

Alex wasn't sure about a dress though. Trying on some loose pants though, she found it wouldn't quite go all the way up with the base of the tail in the way. She wasn't sure if she was ready to go straight into wearing a dress with her sister watching. It would be too weird.

"I think that one will fit you sis," said Sally pointing to a black dress. "Just make a hole in it for your tail."

Alex looked at her.. was she being serious? This didn't bother her? She put it on, a little grateful to have 'something' to wear. The nurse cut a hole for it to slide through.

"I believe the principal would like to see you two now." said the nurse.

Alex and Sally gulped.

Anneza stared blankly at what the girl was saying. By her demeanour she seemed... happy? Happy to see her? Why? The girl wanted to hold her hand... she squeezed the hand back letting a little smile out despite herself.

Still... Anneza felt guilty at being tricked like that. Whatever those 'things' were... they took advantage of her wish to return to her old life. This girl could have been a victim of that desire. She thought the snow white hair was quite cute... she gave her a little pat on that head.

"I guess... you can't understand me. But... I'm sorry..."

Eventually the girl was taken away by the insect-plated police woman... now her transformation was... scary. There was something about an asymmetric transformation that was instinctively disliked. It was an instinct not unlike if confronted by lepers, or some other skin disease.

She felt a bit sorry for her. Though she had a feeling that woman was a lot stronger and could handle anything life threw at her...

In fact... everyone was. Her own body, though capable of flight, did not gain that ability through strength but a quirk of physics she did not understand. Another police officer came to ask more questions, trying to work out her language... she sighed. They played a game of 'charades' for a while, but there was no way to know if the other side was thinking the same thing.

This was not going to end any time soon.

I just... want to go home... she said wiping her eyes. Please just let today end... she prayed silently that her own news team wasn't out there somewhere...

... She resigned herself that the day was far from over.

As they walked towards the principals office, Alex had to 'adjust' herself constantly getting used to the new legs. It was 'almost' instinctive, but not quite. It was like she was just human enough to still remember her old legs, but the claws and scales were off putting. She watched her sister, who seemed to be having a slightly easier time of it.

She noticed that her tail swayed back and forth, and seemed to accentuate hip movement... she glanced behind and realised, she was doing the same- well almost. It seemed to be needed for balance? It did make her blush slightly but she found it easier to walk by copying her sisters stride.

Alex had never been to the principals office before... she knocked at the door, as it opened.

Inside she could see the strange creature that the principal had become. A creature of sand, pitch black on one side and brilliant white on the other, with all shades mixed in between. They also saw the teacher who they had spied on, as well as that rabbit teacher that they had confessed to...

Principal Erin cleared his throat. "Alex... Sally. I am quite disappointed..." he started.

"Please sir-" Sally started-

Erin raised his hand, sprinkles of sand falling on the desk. "You are considered good students here... Good grades, and such... why did you decide to spy on the changed students?"

"It was my idea sir," Said Alex. "I- I dragged Sally into it."

"No!" Said Sally. "I followed him- er- her-"

"Perhaps you could answer me... why did you do this?" Erin started again.

Alex bit her lip. "I- I wanted to know what the day side was like. We always hear stories of stuff- and.. I just wanted to see. I wanted to know what was true and made up."

Erin stared at her "... That's all?"

"That's... all," she sighed.

"Did it not occur to you, to simply ask?"

Alex looked dumbfounded. "B-But... I thought we wouldn't be allowed..."

The rabbit teacher, Maple smiled. "We were all once human. We know you would be curious. Did you really think we would be hiding something?"

Alex and Sally glanced at each other.

Erin looked to them carefully. "Hm... what you did is quite against the rules... "

The human teacher looked to the two of them stepping slightly forward. "They had permission."

Erin glanced at the teacher. "What?"

"Not much... can go on in my classroom, without me knowing..." the human appearing woman gave a little smile. "We are a school are we not? To learn about ourselves, is a most important subject... especially now. Would it not be wonderful, if the changed and unchanged could understand each other better?"

Alex and Sally stared at the teacher in shock. Was she covering for them, or did she really...

Erin nodded. "I can see the intention you had... Well... I suppose what's done is done. I hope you liked what you saw."

"I- I think there's still a lot for me- um us to learn," Alex said in the end.

The three teachers nodded.

"There is a test you must take first, before we en roll you to the day side... just to assess you. Why not take the rest of the day off. Enjoy the sun. We'll talk again after the weekend. And... maybe you would consider, tutoring some students during the occasional night? I believe your grades are sufficient for that."

The human looking woman smiled at Erin's suggestion. "An excellent Idea."

"You two may go now," Erin dismissed them.

Alex and Sally walked out the office.

"That went well," said Sally smiling.

"Sally.. I'm sorr-"

"Hey! You know what? I bet I could run faster then you." she giggled. With that, the dragon girl started to run.

Alex was stunned at the challenge, feeling a slightly 'juvenile' reaction to it. She had to go after her. "The more things change..."
