Dennis could see Effie was not going to let this go.
Reluctantly he tried to do as she did, but couldn't 'tap' into the code or essence, or whatever part of a fairy it was, that granted them this additional ability. He guessed it was similar to accessing the editor, but couldn't find any access control in the editor...
wait a minute, how did he summon the editor without the editor? Perhaps it was subconscious?
He tried to tap the walls, and floor, looking at the light ripples, in the same way as Effie did, building a 'connection' to the environment.. he closed his eyes, trying to will the desire for speed and motion. A way to get from node to node faster then they could walking.
Effie watched Dennis, as he was wrapped in a curious ink-black curtain, offset by the occasional spark of light. To her it reminded one of a night sky, or the celestial heavens as it took his shape perfectly like a second skin. As quickly as it appeared around him, it became as a shadow underneath. Dennis slowly levitated on the blackened square forming on the ground.
"Wow..." the DOS fairy looked down at the black energy that existed physically to him. It was as much a part of him as anything else.
Effie floated closely, her wings flapping. "It's... like a surf board?" She found she could stand on top of it together with the DOS fairy. That was... strange.
"I think because we are part of the windows family, we are able to carry the other," said Dennis. It made sense. DOS supported the windows systems, and for a while the two co-existed. Perhaps that aspect of them translated symbolically into their new states.
Dennis tested out his new DOS-board, as he thought of it at the moment. It was not completely black, there was the occasional text overlaying on it, much like the dos environment. Despite it being slower then Effie's wings, it looked like it was big enough for probably three fairies.
RUN TIME CAPACITY USE 82%
Effie bit her lip. Clearly using these abilities impacted seriously on their available run time. They had to be careful not to over do it. But this would be a lot easier then walking.
With blistering speed, the two travelled to the source of the heat.
Jenny was back in her room, looking at the cards. She tried to shuffle them, but dropped a few of them on the floor. She carefully picked them up.
"Queen of Diamonds," she said looking at it. This one was important to her, for some reason... She looked at the card, wondering why it elicited that feeling. She felt a strange shame as she looked at it, but again couldn't really place those feelings. It just felt like... she lost something.
She started to build a house of cards with the deck, placing the queen of diamonds aside. She then took out the other three queens putting them together. As if she had royal spectators, she got to work creating their castle. Carefully she took hold of each one, building up... her fingers incredibly dexterous, she had very little problem doing this.
It took a good half hour, but eventually she had built a small house of cards out made up of four triangles on the base. For some reason it really pleased her.
"Are you building a doll house?" Tetra asked with a smile on her muzzle.
Jenny gasped not expecting the voice. "U-h... y-yes," she said.
Oh you missed one," said Tetra picking one up from the floor.
Jenny frowned as she looked at the card. "Joker," she said. she placed it with the four queens, looking at it carefully. She placed the queen of hearts, leaning it onto her favoured queen of diamonds card, then took the two queen of clubs and queen of spades, placing them besides in another triangle... and attempted to place the joker on the top.
The small structure fell, as soon as she put the joker on top of it. She carefully picked the joker card away, leaving the four queens back to their standing positions.
"Don't like... that card," said Jenny uncertainly.
