The first question Lisa wondered on her first day in the sun, was what clothes to wear?
After walking- or trotting she found that her clothes were just that little bit larger. Not exactly a huge amount, it would probably be the same as if she lost weight. Her human torso had gained the grace and guile of her dear lower body. She put on a cotton sweater over her loose bra. She looked down at the dear body wondering what to do at that point. She was not aware of centaurs wearing any clothing, but there was something so much more delicate and refined about her own body it almost felt like she should do ''something''.
She experimented with some coverings, but they all just looked silly. In the end she decided to go naked for now. It''s not as if she had any human parts visible.
It was time to go see Jay.
She was actually very excited, as she opened the doors to her house.
Alex tried to sleep, but her parents were arguing.
Again.
They argued from as far as he could remember. Usually about small things, but it grew, and grew. Once a month, once a week... a day...
It never stopped, but lately it was getting a lot worse. Words were muffled by the wall but their meanings clear. His father had started drinking again. Mr Tompson had never actually physically attacked them, but he knew ways of making them all feel worse about themselves. He didn''t know why his father was... like that. On the one hand he could show love and affection for his family, but then there were these dark moments. His mother tried to explain that sometimes his dad got stressed out, and for a while he accepted that.
The truth was a little more complicated then that.
He wondered sometimes what his younger sister thought of it. She was upset when they fought, but she seemed so much more... sure about things then he was. It was a very strange thing. He asked her why, and she simply said: "cause mom said it would be okay."
He wished he could hear those comforting words now.
"You should go! Take your crap shop and daughter!" his fathers voiced hurled itself across the house.
"Andy-"
"Don''t talk back you- "I''ll toss you all out. I made you all what you are!"
Alex swallowed at the spate of swearing that followed. It seemed to be a little worse then before. This was probably always the worst ending he could imagine. If their family was split up, he would have to go with his father, and may never see his sister or mother again. He was old enough to start questioning why that arrangement existed. Why did he have to go with his father? But it was always said as a given consequence.
He knew money was tight. His mother was holding the entire house and they were almost certainly in debt. The banks had given everyone a little break due to the crisis, but... his only thought was to someday do well in school.
He could hear his mother going into his sisters room.
It was like clockwork. They fought, his mother went to make sure Sally was okay... then...
He could hear the heavy footsteps of his father.
With great practice, he pulled the covers over his head and pretended to be sleeping. He was quietly aware of the door closing, and footsteps walking away.
He sighed in relief.
Just another normal day, of what used to be the night routine.
Jay recognised that scent right away. "Lisa?"
"jay!" She smiled.
"Goodness, look at you! You look wonderful!" The little fox took in the sight with curiosity.
"Thank you. You wouldn''t believe the nightmare I had at first though."
"I woke up with three tails, I will believe anything" she smiled back if a little distantly.
"Oh? Well now you got me curious, what was your transformation like?" Lisa was very curious. Jay never actually talked about it.
Jay thought about it. "Um... I was not exactly composed as I am now, to tell you the truth. I tripped over my tails and it took me a good couple of days just to learn to walk with these... legs." She looked down at herself. Now it was natural but before... she was too embarrassed to even picture it.
"Hm, I often wondered why you don''t wear shoes."
"They really don''t fit." Jay said showing a paw.
"Well, they look like they could work with heels, why don''t you try that?"
Jay wasn''t sure but before she could reply she saw that familiar twinkle in Lisa''s eye.
"... In fact, that is what I want to do on my first day in the sunlight. You and I, are going to go shopping!" She grinned.
Jay laughed in spite of herself. This was so much more like the old fun loving Lisa. But she was a little unsure about the idea of going to buy shoes and heels with her friend. Still, there was an appeal to it she couldn''t deny if just to see. "Well, lets do it" She nodded.
"It will be fun Jay, I need to get a few new clothes as well."
Mikey knew something had been wrong with Jon for the last few days, but she didn''t know why. Unnoticed, two digital fairies sat on her left shoulder. They were quiet at the moment, but shared the same concerns of their host. Even if they could not express it to anyone but Mikey.
She knocked on her door. "Jon?"
Jon hurriedly came out of his room "Hello Mikey," the slug girl said.
"Er.. are you okay? You look really pale."
"I'm Fine," Jon said back.
Mikey wondered if that was the truth and was surprised to hear Jon''s voice repeat itself in her head, audible to her fairies as well given they glanced up wondering where it emanated from. A voice stress test was performed by one of her sub processors, and somehow she gained knowledge there was only a 12% chance Jon was telling the truth. But could she call her out on it?
"A-are you sure?" The robot girl asked very concerned.
"Yeah Mikey... it''s just um.. stuff, that''s all."
Dennis and Effie looked at each other, then to Mikey and Jon. They didn''t really know what to add, it didn''t seem to be their business.
"She looks stressed," said Dennis referring to Jon. "Wish we can do more in the real world..."
Effie nodded. Their existence here was so...limiting. Yet in the technological world, they had limitless potential. Given she was able to glitch up someones watch, she wondered what else they could go inside. Their metaphorical existence was just... so different to any other living being out there. It could almost be enjoyable.. if she wasn''t... well... a girl.
Effie had her own fears to deal with anyway. She glanced down at her body, like it was betraying her. She just couldn''t help the things she felt. With her memories mostly gone, she had no way to keep in her head who and what she used to be. Given her thoughts are composed of the body she now inhabited, she knew on that deep level she literally ''was''what she appeared to be. She finally understood the warning, that form and thought were one to a digital fairy...
Perhaps that''s how Mikey was able to rename her so easily.
Not that she didn''t like the name. For some reason she was liking it more and more. She also liked being with Dennis. The young fairy was a calming presence to her. Just being close made her feel so safe and...
"How was school for you Mikey?" Jon asked forcing a little smile. Although she was genuinely curious too.
Mikey smiled back. "I made lots of new friends. They are all really nice. You?"
Jon thought about it. "Yeah, it was... different. But I liked it." Though she was starting to worry about Tiffany. Well, she could handle her.
"What about Zoe?" Mikey asked. There was always this unspoken agreement that boys shouldn''t enter a girls room. However given they were both girls at the moment... maybe they could check on her?
"I think she''s okay- why don''t you go look?.. I just need to lie down a bit," She slowly closed the door not even waiting to see if Mikey agreed or not.
Mikey could tell Jon seemed ill. Maybe it was flu? Whatever it was, it didn''t seem serious. She wondered if her sensors could pick up bio hazards like that but she didn''t know for sure.
she decided to go check on Zoe.
Harry woke a little excited this time. She decided that this time, she was going to be more confident. She was encouraged greatly by the flute, and the others. Even if Ken was going to be a tricky subject... she was not going to let it bring down her day. There was still the matter about the name she would have to use... but...
This day was going to be her day. She tried to rise out of bed-
Only to feel her stomach rebel against the motion, and force her back on the bed. She curled up in pain, groaning.
Did she eat something bad?
She felt something horrible and a very slight wetness down below.
Harry screamed at the sight of a little blood flowing down her leg, and onto the white covers of the bed. Is she dying? Did her transformation damage something?
The young oriental girl''s three eyes looked rapidly around for any damage, but she could not see any cuts or bruises. She winced as she felt her nipples felt very tender too, despite their smallness, they seemed very sensitive.
"M-Mom!"
Her mother came rushing in. Seeing the sight she relaxed. "It''s okay honey, it''s just your period."
All that confidence Harry had built herself up for evaporated in that instant. Her mother had told her she may have to deal with it- she winced in pain.
"H-URTS!" She groaned again.
Her mother sighed nodding. She noticed one peculiar thing though, Harry''s third eye seemed to be a slightly different colour now. a tiny shade of purple mixed into the natural brown? It was noticable to her... did it signify anything? She looked at her child in pain and got back to thinking the priorities. "I know... stay right there sweety I''ll get you a few things"
Harry tried to stay calm hoping her mother can make the pain go away. If she couldn''t maybe she couldn't go to school.
For the first time in a long time, that thought did not appeal to her at all.
