Harry was starting to get a bit worried again.
Picking up the flute, she recalled some of her lessons. She took the three pieces and twisted them together forming the long silver instrument. It felt a little heavier in her hands then she remembered. She positioned it in the way she had before, but could not form the sound. She had to re-adjust herself due to her teeth and lips having very minute differences. After those adjustments she tried to play a standard C scale.
She glanced slightly at Ken who was watching her.
She felt kind of sick in her stomach now. Like a twisted knot that wouldn't go away. She had really screwed up. She just wanted a fresh break from being who she was, and... oh hell, she had even given her name as Haru to the others. The name Ken had wanted her to be. If she had known Ken would be here, she would not have hidden her name.
Actually, if she knew Ken was going to be here, she would never have even come.
This was just beyond cruel. She was trying to do something she had never done before, but Ken was here. Will he now tell them about her? Will they all have a laugh at her 'pretending'? She didn't mean any harm, but it looks like her white lie was about to catch up.
She tried not to think about it. She looked a bit at Naoimi though. Her four arms were a very strange sight to behold an otherwise normal looking black girl. She approached the other girl wondering about her story.
"That must be useful to play drums with?" Harry asked. She hoped it wasn't a rude question.
Naomi looked at her with a modest smile. "Eh, It's too easy now. I like a challenge. Maybe I could try with two sets of drums."
"T-two sets?" Harry tried to imagine that and it actually made her smile.
"It might be fun. Your eye must be useful too. Does it help you see stuff Haru?"
Harry had to think about that. "Not- really. Its an extra eye... but an extra eye doesn't seem to help much like that." She glanced at Ken.. she did see that joke they put onto Zoe... She must have seen it.
"Oh." Naomi looked disappointed. "And here I thought you were looking at the world in four dimensions or something"
Harry and Naomi both giggled a bit.
"Lets play something" Naomi said playing a rhythm.
"What should I play?" Harry asked.
"Just go with it. Anything you like. See if you can match something to this." The beat continued.
Harry wasn't sure about improvisation but gave it a try. She played quite gently, doing the same rhythm as the drum. She wasn't sure where to start, but for some reason she began on a low note. Perhaps because they are a lot easier then the higher notes on a the flute, but the tiny vibrations on her finger tips felt good.
Naomi adjusted her drum beats, and they started to get a simple melody going.
Zara plucked away at a cello. It was probably the strangest sight, watching this angel play base on the large instrument.. She seemed on occasion distracted by something, but was concentrating very hard on the music.
It wasn't what you would call a 'great' song, but it was certainly improvised. Harry found herself enjoying it quite a bit.
Ken then joined in last. He was having the most trouble trying to tie something in with all the others. Much like Harry, He stuck to simple, longer notes. Though tried to offset them from the flute to add a level of depth to the piece.
Harry smiled at that. She tried to improvise a bit more, going for an occasional sharp note. She recalled music often played in questions and answers. going from high pitch to the end, to a low as the second. However if anything, her playing showed she was just full of questions, and very few answers.
"Not bad Haru," Smiled Naomi, giving a thumbs up with one of her hands. She didn't miss a single beat in her playing. She could probably eat and play drums at the same time, Harry thought.
Zara nodded. "Yeah. Now we got to see how you are as a vocalist"
Ken remained silent. he played his part, still a bit unsure about Harry. He remembered his friends words, that asking her out didn't mean anything. Not a thing. He was a bit taken aback earlier by the way Haru had affirmed their association. It felt a bit... hollow. Okay it was his fault entirely, but the way those three eyes looked at him, it almost felt like... she was now insulted by him. Though he guessed she had every right to be. How would he feel if some random guy asked him out? Probably very angry once the embarrassment wore off. There wasn't anything he could do but just try to pretend nothing happened. Maybe she- he- er. will get over it.
David and Adora were walking home. By sheer coincidence, they shared mostly the same route back. All day David tried to avoid Adora, but it seems she was hanging around her more and more. It was a very strange friendship between them. If one could even call it that. If Adora had any feelings of real friendship, David wasn't sure. Still the Angel did like having someone around and despite their differences there was...
Ah hell, David knew there wasn't really any kind of bond between them. Respect? no- Well. Maybe. Though it was a weird kind of respect.
They were complete and total opposites. Even in mind as well as their body shapes.
"I can't believe this! The Principal is a joke. Double standards school." Adora's devil tail swished back and forth, displaying her anger to the world if it was watching.
"Why do you want to go naked anyway?" asked David quietly.
"Why not?"
"Um- because..." David blushed. "Because people will see you naked?"
"I want them to see me naked. It feels right. It feels honest."
David wasn't sure what to make of that. "We're you always like this?" She asked in the end. She had to rub her fingers a it... it seems one of her sisters was plucking a string, and it was feeling a bit off to her.
"Aww.. my angel is curious about how wittle me looked..." she giggled.
David blushed again.
"I looked about the same. I wasn't really all that 'bad' really. heck you might consider me miss goody-two-shoes sometimes. I probably wouldn't have wanted to go naked when I was human. But guess what, I'm not human."
"Didn't you say we weren't angels and devils though when we first met?"
Adora looked at the angel and plucked a feather from her wing.
"Ow!" David winced. And knew all her other sisters felt that too. "W-why did you do that?"
"Would a human feel that? We might not be what we look like, but we also aren't exactly what we were either."
"Huh?" David blinked.
"Your not human, and your not an angel girl. I think for people like us, we're somewhere in between. We might look like these things, but deep down were not. Actually, I'm watching Sarah very carefully on this."
"Sarah? Why?"
"Cause I can sense her instincts... like us, She's not really a harpy.. but she looks like one. Today I felt something. Her instincts I think... not human ones."
"You sensed that?" Harry looked ludicrously.
"Just look at her yourself. She's not walking like a human would, her body language is completely wrong. Especially after she went going naked. She's loosing it, big time. Guess what, that might happen to us. You might become a prissy angel, and I might become an evil devil. Course that wont happen if we're friends, right?"
"So... this is just some sort of experiment to you?" David said feeling just a bit hurt.
"Experiment? Isn't everything a bit like that?" She giggled. "You have as much to gain from it as I do. I don't think you want to be an angel, honey." She winked. "But if you did become one... I want to see what you would do with your devil friend."
"And what would you do with your 'angel friend' if you became a real devil?"
"Oh..." Adora actually blushed slightly. "I'll leave that to your imagination, sweety" she winked.
Maple and Erin were having a heated discussion.
"She believes we are holding... a double standard," Erin said. He was used to aggression in a student, but the devil girl was quite good at presenting her arguments. He wondered if perhaps she was a devil's advocate in some way. Perhaps that was the nature of her change?
"She does have a point," Maple nodded her rabbit ears bouncing slightly.
"There are still decency laws... applied by state law. I was already stretching the rules... with the current concession,"
Maple sighed. Erin for as good as he was a principle, was not used to rapid change. He tended to change things one step at a time and only if required. A rock of stability, which has worked quite well in keeping a school actually running in the crisis. But the small things, these tiny things, he lacked imagination to work out. Its often where Maple stepped in, balancing him out.
"The Decency laws are a product of human thought," She said simply. "A law can be changed."
"I'm not prepared to turn this into... a nudest school," He said. "It would require authorisation... beyond me."
"Let us consider this carefully. What if the student was for all intents and purposes, 'not' human. Not in any recognisable way. Could they not wear clothes?"
Erin nodded. "Agreed... although many students here are still... recognisably human. More or less."
"What of students who look human but can not wear clothing for some reason? Say... they were allergic, or made clothing combust..." Admittedly she didn't think the devil girl could do that... but it was a good example.
"Well... if they did something like that... I suppose I could not force them to wear clothing," he said defeated. "But I'm not aware of... any student in that kind of... situation."
"Not yet, but they might occur. It seems imagination is the only limit to what's happening," the rabbit teacher reminded.
"It would not cover... our devils case... she is 'choosing' not to wear clothing... as a fashion statement"
Maple thought about it but couldn't find any counter argument.
"Oh what a nightmare... this is," Erin sat down on his chair, leaning back. "I will consult with the governors... if we have any plans for such students. I can not authorise... a 'naked if you feel like it'... rule."
It was going to be a long day for the principal.
