Jon dashed upstairs and grabbed the stone out of his nightstand. He shut the door behind him and plunked down on the chair at his desk.
"I wish the sun was back to normal!" he said. He was about to look out the window when it occured to him that if his wish hadn't worked he'd be transformed. He sat back down again.
"I wish I knew if the sun was back to normal." No, he realized, it wasn't. He was immediately grateful that he'd thought to check before opening the blinds.
"I wish I knew why the sun isn't back to normal." Okay, it was outside of the stone's range. That at least squared with what he knew about the stone, but then...
"I wish I knew why the stone was able to affect the sun the first time." Wait, what? Jon knew now that there was some sort of star alignment that had affected it, and for whatever reason, it was over now. Damn.
"I wish I knew when the stone will be able to affect the sun next."
Six months. Holy crap, this was bad. Six months they'd have to hide out indoors and keep the blinds shut. Six months that the world would have to switch to a nocturnal schedule - assuming that it was even safe to go out at night. Jon looked at the window. Six months of having no...
Oh God. The blinds didn't keep all the light out; there was still a patch of light that got through the cracks. It extended out just past his desk...right to where he was sitting. Jon panicked and lept out of the chair, landing clumsily on the floor away from the light, but he'd already been sitting there for somewhere around three minutes...
