“A Fomorian you say,” the creature mulled this over in its mind. “What conditions would you place on me for this honor?”
Sir Garrett and Brana stood stunned for a moment as they tried to figure out if the creature was trying to trick them but the creature seemed completely serious about being willing to offer more for the honor to slay the giant. The paladin decided to test the monster to see if it was serious about what it was saying and make it take a sacred oath on its treasure. Few dragons, even those of the evilest nature would break an oath taken upon their hoard.
“You will not attack the people of the north including the frost giants,” Sir Garrett spoke up. “Swear upon your hoard.”
“I am willing if the condition that I have the right to defend myself if I am attacked,” the Queen of Ice responded. “It is no great sacrifice as humans are too small to be satisfying and frost giants have a terrible aftertaste to them.”
Brana started to protest the taste of frost giants but Sir Garrett waved her down because it seemed like they had gotten what they wanted, there was no need to argue. He suspected the dragon was having some fun at the expense of the Frost Giant. She hesitated a moment but saw the wisdom of holding back.
“Agreed,” Sir Garrett answered. “Why are you so willing to make a deal with us?”
“Revenge is almost as delicious as a treasure to a dragon. Your order deals with holy magic, surely you have noticed the arcane and foul nature of the magic that binds me. This Fomorian may not be the one who has done this to me but I plan for it to be the first of many I devour. The extinction of the race is my next goal in life.”
“That is suicidal. They are too many and too powerful for any creature to stand against them,” Brana said.
“For a giant-sized creature you have small ideas,” the dragon retorted. “They are their own worst enemies. I will be hired to kill many of them before they even realize what is going on and I shall take in treasure that will make what I have like a pittance. The treasure can fund the destruction of the rest of the disgusting creature. It is a simple plan but with my power, it will be most effective.”
“I can’t say I agree with your motives but I applaud your cause,” Sir Garrett encouraged.
“Who am I to deny you the honor of dying in combat,” Brana said.
“How very kind of you but I intend to make others do the dying so start breaking these enchantments so I can get started,” the Queen of Ice demanded.
Sir Garrett and Brana started their work and debated about how to approach attacking the Fomorian. Thankfully, the work was easy as the enchantment’s powers had faded over the years so they had plenty of time to talk.
