Brana had awakened before Sir Garrett and investigated the spot where she had been the entrance was and started to work on clearing the entrance. Things would be simpler if Princess Fina was a frost giant as well. She could declare her attentions for Sir Garrett and fight her in a form of combat that the Princess chose. Brana was certain she could best the pampered Princess in any challenge the spoiled royal could come up with.

Working up some sweat felt good and helped relax her mind. A thought came to mind and she came up with a plan on how to win the heart of the paladin. She had made him a giant, why couldn’t she transform into a human when this quest was completed so she could challenge the Princess. It would be unfair to transform the untrained girl into a frost giant to face her so she would take on the awkward form of a human girl to face Princess Fina and still win and earn the even greater honor.

“You are doing some fine work,” Sir Garrett walked up and started moving stones aside. “You could have woke me up to come help with this.”

She smiled at him, “I know but I am a hard worker and I have already burdened you with so much during this quest, this is the least I could do.”

“Don’t worry about burdening me with this quest because it is a worthy one. Perhaps we will be able to form an alliance between your people and mine.”

A blush formed on her cheeks as she thought about forming a marriage alliance with him for the good of her people. It made her happy but she shook the thought from her head and got back to work. She wanted to challenge this Princess properly and not just earn his love through the political goals for the future.

They stopped in their work when they formed a small hole, well small hole for a frost Giant for them to crawl through. Sir Garrett drew his blade and crawled through first but followed closely by Brana who lit the room with a bright white orb that floated in front of them lighting the path. A dull glow of red showed in the many arcane symbols carved into the icy walls indicating magic still worked to entrapped the monster they were about to face.

The tunnel opened into a gigantic chamber with a large pit in the center of the room filled with golden treasure though more than a small portion of it was covered by a white dragon of legendary size. Shallow breathing could be seen as the chest expanded and shrank as the creature seemed to take little notice of their presence but Sir Garrett wasn’t taking any chances and lifted his shield up into a protective position and slapped his blade against the shield creating an echoing sound through the chamber. An eyelid lifted slowly revealing a glowing white orb that eyed the intruders to its chamber.

“Have you come to try and kill me?” the Queen of Ice asked. There was no fear in the voice, only a sense of boredom. “Even in my starved state, I am more than a match for a couple of frost giant.”

“We have come to bargain with you wyrm,” Sir Garrett tried to say with confidence. He could feel Brana’s fear drawn from generations of death this creature had inflicted on her people but she managed to contain it to a slight shudder.

The head of the monster lifted as interest began to fill the dragon, “What would you have me do to earn my freedom?”

Brana called out, “I wish you to slay the foul Fomorian who is corrupting my people, do we have a deal?”

Laughter shook the chamber as the beast chuckled at the words of the frost giant. Shards of glass shattered as they hit the floor before a fearsome grin formed on the face of the monster. Sir Garrett wasn’t sure what to make of the creature’s amusement. It had no doubt heard of the evil giant race but what did it think of them? Dragons generally hated giants but maybe it was different for this dragon. He doubted it was afraid because few things scared a dragon of this size the only thing they generally feared was a larger dragon.
