It felt strange to not start a fire against the cold this far north. He knew that he was a frost giant, a creature who didn’t feel the cold as most do, but he was still tempted to make a fire because of his survival instinct. He missed the noises and the light it gave off of it. Not having a fire made home seem much further away. Sir Garrett looked at the sky and wondered what Princess Fina was thinking about, was she thinking of him, he wondered.
“What is your life like?” Brana asked him as she pulled out some food for them to eat.
“It is filled with travel and combat,” Sir Garrett responded. “There always seems to be some sort of threat to the safety of the kingdom that I must go and face. It makes me worry I won’t be able to give the Princess a happy life. A husband should be home with his wife more than a few days every couple of months. I was on my last quest for the King, and when I was done I would ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage. You interrupted that but when I am done I hope I can do good closer to home.”
“What sort of woman is this Princess Fina? In frost giant society the man and woman are welcome to travel with each other. We are often travelers across the land. Perhaps you need to find a woman who shares your interest in combating the forces of evil.”
“She is a lovely woman who sees the beauty in things and hopes for better for the future. She is playful though a little impulsive at times. Fina knows her mind and is difficult to argue against. She has great plans for the Kingdom, and she wants me to be a part of them.”
The frost giant had a little regret asking about the princess because it looked like the paladin was in love with the woman, but she decided it was a foolish and blind love. He needed someone who could travel with him and take more of a hands-on approach to making the world a better place. She would have to think of some way to convince him that he needed to look somewhere else for love.
“It is good to see you have love,” Brana said after a few minutes of thought. “It is something I think most beings look for and I hope to have myself one day. The night grows late and we should get some sleep become we have to get up in the morning and go to face the Queen of Ice. We should be at our best when we face a legend.”
Sir Garrett nodded and curled up on the ground wondering what sort of challenges they would face the next day. He was aware of the location of the feared dragon, but he had little idea of how it was guarded or what bound the dragon to the location. He didn’t want to fail because he was starting to care about Brana and by extension her people. Maybe they could be allies one day.
