Luckily for Jon, the streets were nearly empty; as close as it was to midday, everybody was probably having lunch. She checked with the gatekeeper and got directions to the only shop in town that sold clothes, and aside from an icy stare from one elderly lady, they made it there with no trouble.

Taking a deep breath, Jon stepped inside. It was more of a general store than a tailor's shop, but there were some clothes in with all the other goods. Behind the counter sat a middle-aged woman. She regarded them curiously, but with none of the animosity the biddy on the street had shown. "What on earth happened to your clothes?" she asked.

Karyn flitted forward as Jon stod there fumbling for words. "We don't know," she said. "We woke up and they were gone."

The shopkeeper stood there a moment, trying to figure out what to make of that. "Hmm," she said. "Well, it's a good thing no worse harm came to you, at least. I expect you're here to find something to wear?"

Jon nodded. "Yeah. And...would it be possible to get some pants? I kind of need the mobility."

"I figured as much," the woman replied. "You look like the type to get into a tussle now and then. I don't know what you dragonkin see in the adventuring business, myself. Most girls your age'd be looking for a nice young fellow to settle down with, not tromping through the wild looking for treasure. But come into the back, and I'll get your measurements."

Jon and Karyn followed, as Jon tried to shake off the mental image she'd just been given. The woman produced a measuring tape from one of the cupboards in the back room and turned to them. "Let's take care of you first, little miss," she said to Karyn. "I've never tailored for you small folk before, but I've done some clothes for my littlest girl's dolls that I think should fit you."

She motioned to a workbench, and Karyn touched down on top of it and stood ready while the shopkeeper dug out a handful of tiny dresses. They spent the next several minutes trying them on, as Jon watched impatiently. Finally, Karyn settled on one. It was a simple design with minimal frills, but generally pleasant-looking, it was backless, which left her wings unhampered, and it happened to fit her quite comfortably. "Perfect!" she said. "Do you have any more like this?"

The shopkeeper shook her head. "Nope, but I can make some for you if you've got a couple of days to spare. And since I know what fits you, I can even make different clothes, if you like."

Karyn nodded. "Great. I'll have to talk things over with Jen here and see what our plans are, but I think we might take you up on that."

The shopkeeper smiled. "All right, miss Jen," she said, "let's see what your measurements are like and what we have that'll fit you."

The next few minutes were rather awkward for Jon; not that the process was particularily invasive, but having someone else handle her new body really brought home the fact that she had a new body. But it was over soon enough, and they had her measurements - or rather, the shopkeeper did. Jon heard the numbers, but with no basis for comparison aside from Karyn's exponentially smaller measurements, she had no real idea what they meant.

The first thing the shopkeeper retrieved was a brassiere, which she helped Jon put on, securing the straps around her neck and under the base of her wings. As weird as it felt to have breasts, it felt good to have them supported; Jon hadn't really noticed it due to all her other, more pressing concerns, but after more than a day of bouncing around whenever she moved, they had gotten a little sore.

After the shopkeeper had gotten her a bottom for her underwear, which fastened above her tail, she was presented with something she'd been missing quite a bit: pants. "I only have men's pants in stock," the shopkeeper told her, but Jon happily accepted them from the shopkeeper and tried them on. They weren't a perfect fit; a little too tight around the hips and a little too loose everywhere else, but they worked, and if they did wind up sticking around, she could get a few pairs tailored to fit her.

The outfit was finished up by a simple shirt with slits for her wings to pass through; this fit much better than the pants did. Jon paid for their clothes, which totalled three of the copper coins; evidently, she and Karyn had a reasonable amount of purchasing power available.

"Okay," Karyn said. "Now that that's taken care of, where do we go from here?"

"You could go to the inn, if you want," the shopkeeper suggested. "They'll still be serving lunch, and it's fairly cheap. You can talk about your plans, and I'll still be here when you've made up yoir minds."

Jon's stomach began to growl at the mention of food, reminding her that she hadn't eaten in...what, fifteen hours? "Sounds good," she said, smiling. "Let's do that."
