Ossie and Kyoko were also targets of this desire to see us dead from Chegow. Hopefully, they were both smart and hiding somewhere safe. I had no way of knowing whether they were still alive or dead. Anyone could have gotten to them. They would be better off dead instead of subjected to the cruelty of slavery in either city. I did not mark them as important to me because I had no interest in forming much of a relationship with them after getting to the dungeon. Either way, I had the centaurs to worry about. A black assassin could kill them easily. Because of that, they were in my party all the time. We now did everything together. It was not all bad, however. Due to the utter invasion of bounty hunters and assassins and all of the fighting and killing, we were able to farm some serious exp. even though we were stuck in the town. I was a level 27 Player. That did not mean that I was invincible. I was nearly taken out when a brown assassin approached with a quiver full of poison arrows. He shot from a roof top without warning. Xenios instantly went down. Korenio did too with the next arrow. It was OP.
Killing him took the town guards, the militia and us running around the town. We had to track him down and engage him before he could get off any more of those deadly arrows. He was an expert sniper, so he ran around on the roofs of the town and shoat at us. When we got into blindspots, he had to move. That was when we could fight him on the ground. Even that did not stop him from slashing with a poisoned sword. After clearing a way, he did some more potshots at us before escaping to another place where he could snipe from. Eventually, the captain of the guard was able to get a lucky critical hit with his arrow as he returned fire. Doing so killed the assassin and ended the fight. He was lauded as a hero and knighted by the Church. Towns did not have the clout needed to have a knightly order. He was now Sir Michell. Lots of people died in the encounter. Even some of the clergy were killed, Mother Penelope being one of them. It was no skin off my back. The town mourned her passing the most though. She looked after all the orphans in the town and was a pillar of the community.
Receiving the letters from the knights could not have come at a more opportune time. Both Terry and Jurdan wrote back, but so did Sir Rolland. Sir Rolland was the one knight that was healed in the village when Father Shalo ran out of manna. His letter spelled out the urgency of the situation. If I was not there to carry him, he would have been dead by the time the others could have carried him by foot. "'Taur though she may be, I must admit that it was her that saved my life. If this recommendation to the knighthood can settle my debt with her, so be it." he wrote. Terry and Jurdan were tepid in their responses. While they did say they had no reason to doubt my duty or the mission of the Church, they did raise the question of what a demihuman knight would look like for the people in Arkton. All in all, they pretty much refused while saying that they were for it. That was no matter. With the strong affirmative from Rolland, the tepid yeses only bolstered my qualifications. Bishop Annabelle was all too happy to accept my money. It was all plundered loot from my enemies and all of the defeated knights.
