Two catkin, a lizardkin and a rabbitkin came. The two catkin were sisters. The others were young men. The man looked at us and said "I guess you'll do. I told those layabouts to have my money or leave my inn on time. This is the time that I'll make sure everyone gets the message." We got our weapons and followed him to his inn. It was pretty nice to be getting missions. This was a security mission. We were to guard the inn until the manager was done evicting the tenants that fell behind on their payments. Some thugs came to get at the owner, but we repelled them. After the work was done, we were treated to free drinks at the bar. That was fun. I had no desire to get to know the coal ranks though, so I did not socialize with them. There really was no point. Not only were they cannon fodder, but they had nothing going for them aside from being other denizens of the city. That did not mean I had to be rude either. When I was done with my drink, I thanked them all and moved on. The church was my destination. I wanted to continue get on to the initiation questline already. I was ready.
It was not meant to be. I got another job. A noble wanted to clear an area filled with urchins and the poor so he could sit and paint there. I did as I was told. People from the area really did not like me, but I was too strong to care about what a bunch of NPCs thought. I was on a roll. Another artisan wanted me to intimidate the customers of his competitors so they would no longer give him patronage. The catkin sisters backed me up. Finally, there was a young noble that wanted to make a purchase on the black market and needed a bodyguard. The noble's name was Cody Lovewin. The Lovewin family was known in the kingdom for their archers on the battlefield. It was a very fierce family. It was also known for the poetry and financial wizardry of their branch family, the Moretons. Giving my child some noble blood might be a big benefit for me. I could play politics and even make designs on a noble title for myself. It certainly would not be hard with a superpowered kid that could kill anyone in our way. There was no limit. I would need to keep an eye on him. He purchased his item and then we left.
Now that I had completed 5 missions for the guild, I ranked up to copper. That meant that I could take 30% of the total cost and the price to pay for me would go up. That also meant that I had some free time to get to the church and getting some new quests. When I got to the front steps, Father Curt Ariacaster was there with his arms crossed. I could see him tap his foot against the top stair in frustration. He looked like he was in a foul mood. "Hello, Father. How are you doing?" I greeted. He turned his head to look at me. "Oh, it's you. I'm doing fine, Miss Brianne. I am just waiting for Daniel to get back. I sent him to the market a few hours ago. He should have been back by now. Can you fetch him for me?" he explained. I accepted the request and went to go looking for him. I knew where the markets were and marched straight there. Once I was there, I kept an eye out for him. He was nowhere to be found. What I did see were urchins look around and sneak off somewhere. I decided to follow them because it was the only clue I had. When I did, I saw that Daniel was getting jumped.
