Not wanting to be there for another minute, I rushed into the city. I read the encyclopedia in the menu. Ablinas City was one of four main cities in the Arkton Kingdom. It is a smaller city than Epic, but lots went on here. This was another city in the Kingdom that Epic city was in, after all. The trade center of the kingdom was in Ablinas. This also meant that there would be no shortage of job opportunities and quests. All I would need to do is look for something to work. At the moment, I could see that lots of the NPCs were looking at me. Some pointed at me and others looked at me in disgust. There were still others that said things under their breath. I knew that I went with a unique design, but I did not think that they would recognize it. On the other hand, there were not many demihuman races on the streets either, so that could be it. I had already experienced racism at the gates. I looked at all of the guilds, but they refused me outright. The only place that did not turn me down was the Mercenary Guild. It seemed that since Lance Quad and the Sages were in Epic the city was forced to be more tolerant.
The guild had six tiers of mercenaries: Coal, Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Usually, they did not let Player's join the Mercenary Guild. The lore was that the adventuring NPCs were still pretty distrusting of us. They don't want to become obsolete. The Adventurer's Guild gets quests that influence the fate of the city or world. It was something that did not want in the hands of Players. Since there were not many players here in the city, there were only the NPCs running everything. However, they could not really stop the Players if they truly wanted to do it. More than anything, they really did not want to see any of the demihumans prosper. As a centauress, I checked both boxes of hate for them. I was getting popups for quests to join them. I would have to do certain tasks for them before they would let me join up with them. It was not worth it for me. Why should I help these racist assholes. The Adventurer's Guild was structured the same way as the Mercenary Guild. The Mercenary Guild was for NPCs that needed some muscle for something. There were 5 types of missions they undertook.
Escort, Security, Extortion, Taxes, and Battle were the missions given by the guild. Escort missions were taking an NPC from Point A to Point B. Security missions were a sequence of excursions guarding a place from people that would like to break in. It was a mission that varied wildly with who paid for it and what rank was requested. As for the other missions, they were more on the shady side. Extortion missions were when we were sent out to intimidate someone to do something. Taxes were a special set of missions where the tax collectors came for us for help in the villages that were being stingy with their taxes. From what I read in the menu, a corrupt tax collector trigged that mission more often than the non corrupt ones did. Battle was when a force needed extra men for a campaign. Whether it was a siege of a small settlement or a town defense, mercenaries were employed with promises of loot or high pay depending on the side they were on. They let me in because they already took in all types as mercenaries. Who actually cared who was going to be dying for you as long as the job got done?
I was added to the catalogue of the Coal rank mercenaries. There were 30 coal ranks, 23 copper ranks, 17 bronze ranks, 16 silver ranks, 14 gold ranks, and 5 platinum rank members. They all lived in the city. Coal ranks were all between levels 1-6. A copper rank mercenary was from the levels of 7 to 12. Bronze rankers were between 13-19. Silver rankers were all between 20-29. Gold rank was between 30-39. Diamond rank mercenaries were between levels 40-49. These were for the NPC members of the guild. For players, it was milestone based. 5 missions got you into copper. 10 more for bronze rank. That was where you got salary. Just joining came with a 5 lin member's dues fee to be paid on sign up and monthly. The only pay a lower rank could expect was 25% commission for the completed job. Most of them therefore had a second job to keep them afloat between missions. That was something I was going to have to do as well. Now that I had my first job, I could go to the administrative district to get my citizenship. It was not that easy to get my papers and it took all that in-game day.
