She got serious. "Now Karyn. You look like you have something on your mind. Would you like to share it with us? Or would you like to talk more privately?"
"It isn't private. Everyone you've talked to seems to have changed," Karyn said.
The older woman looked at her. "Isn't that the point of therapy, Karyn?" She said. "To help people change for the better?"
"Is it the better?"
"The Gibsons have been trying to relate better as a family. Since I started helping them, Zoe and her mother are getting along better than ever. I didn't force them to...they wanted to," Miss Fine said.
"Which mother?" Karyn said.
"I don't quite get your meaning," she said, with some fake innocence.
"Karyn, it sounds to me as if you are projecting your own problems onto other people. I understand that you've broken up with your boyfriend."
"I didn't break up with anyone," Karyn said.
"Well, you do have a reputation at school...perhaps I misunderstood. I apologize."
"It was Sarah's boyfriend...not mine."
"Sarah? She didn't mention having a boyfriend during our sessions. She is a sweet girl. Something of a tomboy though. Not like you and Zoe."
Karyn took a deep breath, trying to remain calm...or pretend to remain calm while her heart was beating fast in her chest.
